Noob here, so I apologize if these questions are dumb. Is liquid plastic the same or similar to resin? Also, does the mould need to be kept in a sealed container or anything when storing after use?

No dumb questions. Liquid plastic is resin absolutely. And on the mold question the only reason to store in a sealed container is dust and it could just be wiped off. I store mine on a shelf in the garage with no container. And had no problems.

It comes in different cure times from extremely fast (minutes) to hours curetime. I understand budget and convenience, people will get resin from Michaels or hobby lobby but it's not great product.

Is it better to have large chunks of reused silicone or to chop it up as gravel-like as possible?

I like using bigger pieces personally. But really up to you. Bigger pieces I can plan where they are inside the mold.

That seems like a lot of work. If the creature fit in the cup can't you just use the cup? Why would you need to do all that extra stuff with the glue and then trying to pull it apart? Not throwing shade the real question😊

Okay here is my goal. Take a fan art digital sculpt. 3D print parts in photopolymer resin. Post process and make molds. Then cast in polystone. I would like to create about 30 garage statue kits this way. Doable?
@flanagancreations1673
@flanagancreations1673 Жыл бұрын
Totally doable. 3D print resin has to be molded with tin cure silicone because of cure inhibition.

Respectable How to make silicone mold of a stuffed or plush toy. The point is, how to strenghten the hairs on the toy so that they don't stick together when filling. 🙃 Some spray or something that is compatibile with liquid silicone.

As a beginner I'm wondering if you essentially ruin or jack up the original item you placed hot glue on to adhere to the paper base? Or does hot glue come off easily when it's dry? Also, why the zig zag cut when cutting our the original piece from the fresh mold?
@lucasfarted
@lucasfarted Жыл бұрын
It shouldn't ruin the item. If you're worried you can use double sided tape or anything else you like. The goal is to not have the original sculpture float or move at all, so securing it is essential. The jagged cut is so that the mold fits together in only a single orientation. If it's smooth you might have slipping occur during curing which would ruin your model. Think like a puzzle with only two pieces, you want them to fit as snug as possible.

Why are you adding pigment to B before pairing A & B together? Is there a reason besides "working for you"? (No judgement there. I can't count the number of times I've said just that to people I'm giving sewing lessons to. "It's probably not the "right" way but it's what works for me.")
@flanagancreations1673
@flanagancreations1673 Жыл бұрын
The reason i do it is that i use a 15 minute cure resin. So to add A and B plus pigment all at once its hard to get the color evenly mixed.
