Just came back from a vacation in Turkey and in my opinion, unless you are a Muslim, those 6am calls to pay will get on your nerves in no time. Squatting in public toilets, everone smoking, 80% inflation, ready to start a war with Greece and Syria at any second, no pork and or bacon, I can go on! You should check how much of GDP each country spends on military. Knowing what I know I'll take Mexico 10X over Turkey.

you should also check how much GPD per capita is distributed....

Funny not funny how "expat" and "immigrant" terms work, most of the USA people believe they're "expats" but they don't want to call themselves "immigrants, aliens, invaders, wet backs" like some other groups like Mexicans, Venezuelans, Cubans, Salvadorans etc living in USA are called like that on a daily basis Your ancestors from the "Mayflower" were immigrants and so are you now as well, nothing wrong with that, just don't romanticize your necessities , struggles, lack of resources to live a decent life in your hometown calling yourselves "expats" That auto perception doesn't mean that the same rule will not apply the for everyone despite that are the same conditions lived through different characters/races/ethnicities/citizenships Just so you know, the whole country is not gonna change the language, the system for you (yes it's Kms, liters, meters, kilos, Celsius etc) as many complaint and discuss about that Don't try to change the celebrations for the Saints and Virgins in the rural areas you'll lose that battle, there will be fireworks all day and night for days in some places And BTW, don't come thinking that you can have a private pool where there's no water even to drink let alone a pool for a selfish lifestyle Be humble, be nice, treat others like you like to be treated every time Learn Spanish, the day when you have a big emergency will come and see if everyone will be ble (or/and willing) to understand you in English Specially when you have been 10 years or so already in the country and you think you're "expat" and 0 Español, nope you're not an "expat" you're immigrant too and if you're lazy to grasp a minimum of Spanish that will come to you in its own time The place where you going for your documents is called "Instituto Nacional de Migración" no "Instituto Nacional de expatriados" try to land in this world fun time to time don't wonder in your little bubble forever

I know this is an older video but it came up on my feed. Sam Miguel is NOT like Arizona or Southernn California. It is the other way around. Those locations were Mexico at one time. All of these areas have retained Spanish colonial and indigenous influences. Please learn a bit more history.

I was there about 15 years ago and there was a lot of trash on the ground in Centro. I was very disappointed and asked a shopkeeper about it. He said kids drop trash on their way home from school. Maybe they’ve cleaned up their act (?) which is good news.

I don’t blame you for not staying in Ottawa. The sad thing is it’s not going to get any easier to live there unless you have a pot of gold. The cost of living in Canada is sky high. It is very difficult for even local people to live and sustain a basic life style.

Not sure being an animal lover. I could handle the attitudes towards stray dogs and the cowboy culture is not necessarily very humane I think I would have a house full of starving critters most of the time and probably be stressed to not take in more

Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second daughter. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks.

Lots of good info. Odd about the health problems. The most unexpected but consistent remarks that I have run into about leaving the US/Canada for Mexico has been significant improvements in health just from eating local food, de-stressing, and who knows whatever environmental de-toxing. Sorry to hear that; if you could un-bug the health issues, I guess there would still be the economic ones. And those economic factors would seem to plague any country that opens its doors to expat incomes. Huh...

Yes, I’ve had the same experience, I could NOT even get an interview at the Seattle consulate due to work related issues. They insist on remote verification or social security letter. I don’t even plan on working there as I’m close to retirement. They seem to want you to be retired even if you have the savings/investments. I may reconsider once I retire. Not giving up on Mexico though because of the ease and closeness of traveling to and from the US. Zero interest in Asia or Europe.

how hard is to get a residency in Türkiye for retired USC?
@guyon2wheels8083 ай бұрын
Short hop from Istanbul but with a culturally different experience try out Bursa, the former capital of the Ottoman Empire. In the Bursa region you have the shoreline of Mudanya, hot springs of Yalava, and the mountain terrain of Uladag. Little more conservative than Istanbul and Izmir but shares the famous Turkish warm hospitality. Oh, it is the home of the renowned Iskender Kabab, which best eaten at the original little blue shop in the Heykel area of Bursa. Expect to wait, you won't be disappointed.

Do you happen to know does Turkey tax North Americans on their pensions, retirement income, etc?
@SSupernova28 күн бұрын
Tax status of non citizen residents are quite similar to citizens. If the money is transferred to you periodically via bank account you have to pay tax. On the other hand, %30-35 of total economy is black market, government dont ask about source of wealth during big purchases like house, land or car. Plus, 10000usd per person can be brought as cash for each travel. There is bilateral aggreement between usa and turkiye to yearly exchange history of banking but i dont think they take action unless there is suspect of criminal activity. All in all, your effective tax rate will be either 0 or not more than %20
