We think your assessment of Mexico City is right on the mark. When we arrived for a visit the idea of living there wasn't even in the back of our minds. When we left Mexico City we were shocked because we felt like we would enjoy living there long term. Great video!

Even the “cons” are nothing for some folks… it just depends on who you are, what your habits are.. and how you navigate through life. I’m from Chicago and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE everything about CDMX! The altitude, the noise, the fact that the city is so vast.. I rather deal with “pollution” than stray bullets, or the DISGUSTING WEATHER in the north, ESPECIALLY in Canada! It’s the altitude that gives CDMX its gorgeous weather. It just depends on how you see things. I will NEVER go back to snow, or the insecurity we see in the USA… you can’t even enjoy a parade these days with out a few folks dropping like flies around you from stray bullets. CDMX is one of the best cities on this planet.

You guys did a great job on this video! Every night I watch videos about retiring in Mexico, but it’s always people drinking, piña coladas, while the sun sets over the ocean. Not my favorite thing. Mexico city sounds like it could never get boring.

Nice video and so . . . Canadian. I go to CDMX all the time: me encanta la ciudad! I agree with all your comments but, I really feel that as intelligent North Americans, we can take the time to learn Spanish. There are free apps like Duolingo and Spanish with Paul that make it so easy. In other words, there are NO excuses. Ciao!

Glad you enjoyed the video! If we choose to live in Mexico, we absolutely would learn the language to a much more fluent level. We were there for 4 months total, and picked up what we could. When we were in Turkey, we did the same. And when we were in Bulgaria we did the same. And now in Thailand, the same. Languages take time to learn well, and once we decide where we will live, we will put in the time to learn the language. For now we do our best. Thanks for watching!

We were just there. We only flew down for the a long weekend to check it out and in just that short time we found what you said to be true. We really liked it and are looking to go back. It was very pretty and tons to do. we live in San Diego but we are originally from Florida so it was a good combination of some rain but not the heavy humidity and we liked that it was very green and walkable at least in the condesa and roma norte areas. It is definitely on our list for an extended stay later this year.

Loved the video Jenny and Noel, and we feel the same way about loving the city!. We are from Los Angeles, and absolutely fell in love, we have our tickets and ar in process of decluttering, selling, donating etc our household. Plan to move in June without furnishings etc, have our Airbnb all set for the summer! We loved the parks, Condesa, Centro, everything.. the green space is wow wow. We spent about a month there and got to explore. It was late Aug - Sept we did not have any issue with mosquitos. But will be prepared thanks for the heads up. We also visited SMA and loved it too, but wanted a bigger city activity wise. It spoke to us loudly!! move here move here. I agree about the airport and gates.. haha yes it happened to us running through the airport..and why the gates assigned at the las minute?? I have no clue. Its sad the US press dogs Mexico so much, and so many are scared to even visit, due to that. We see way more crime in the USA and Los Angeles alone. We also liked the presence of the police, it gives a secure feeling. If we had more of that in USA with armed guards at stores, the bad actors would not have the opportunities or would think twice eh!

once we get rid of Biden and his leftist government life will improve--wonder why so many Mexicans are coming here if so great--I was in Mexico City 35 years ago loved it but it was basically rich and poor and the pollution was not great --but I did love it there even then--Drug lords and leftist president may crash the middle class there now?

Mexico City is a very agetreated area to have a rest house but if it's very good to come to work in fact, young people from many countries and all professions are arriving cause there's a lot of labor supply. Mexicans we really appreciate when anyone integrates into social life in this country and strives to learn a little Spanish.

I like the idea of Mexico City except that it is pricey for Mexico. We absolutely hope to eventually spend some time there but will start our retirement adventure in San Cristobal de las Casas. Our second choice is Cholula Puebla. Both are smaller cities with cool weather. We are retiring at 55 and 60 years old so we will have about 16 months paying all costs out of pocket. Once I start getting my SS check that will cover all of our expenses but not enough for us to live in Mexico City. It may be an option once both of us have SS checks coming in.

Mexico City can be pricey for sure. Puebla City is somewhere we have considered as a good, smaller city option to Mexico City - Cholula would also be good, I think. The volcanoes do freak us out a bit though!

Great video- thanks! What area did you stay in while in Mexico city and how much rent did you pay? And, do you know what area you'd want to live in there? By the way, we are living in the Diamante area of Acapulco right now across from a beautiful quiet beach and many well off mexicans own apartments in the building we are in. It's only 3 1/2 hours from the beach here to Mexico City - so that's another plus, that it doesn't take too long to get to a nice beach area from there.

I tell everyone to visit there. The neighborboods are amazing. People in US think it's backwards, crime ridden and dangerous. It's a city. There are places to go and places not to go. Just gotta watch for sidewalks that pop up or down unexpectedly. You have to buy water and plumbing isn't always the best. But it is a totally amazing place to visit. See for yourself.

Can you share with us what you think your total monthly costs would be living in Mexico City ? We think we will spend $1800 or less in San Cristobal de las Casas, but would be closer to $2300-$2500 in Mexico City ???? We speak Spanish and have lived abroad before.

I think for us $2500 USD would be completely fine, and maybe a bit high. However, in Mexico City that would be a good thing, in that it would allow us to do some different activities. No, this is completely untrue, we have travelled in a lot of countries all over the world. Most major airports in the world announce in the native languages of the place, and in English as well as other relevant languages. For example, Thailand does Thai, Chinese, and English.

Hi from Montreal! Mexico City's airport and its passengers are hostages to a political saga that's been going on for decades. An ultra modern huge new airport by English architect Norman Foster was to start operations 3 months ago in Texcoco, a few kilometres away from the current one. That never happened because the works were stopped and the site was flooded by the federal government. Why? Because that project was put together by the previous administration and 4 years ago the newly elected left-wing President decided a country full of poverty like Mexico (and its elite) should not enjoy a top-tier airport. So after a 33% of advancement he ordered to stop the works and started buildung a much cheaper version at a new site 2 hours away from the city. This new airport (AIFA) opened 3 months ago however neither the passengers nor the airlines want to use it: there's not a decent road to get there, no train, there is only one or two food options and just 10 domestic operations per day with some flights reported taking off with only 5 passengers. Some routes have already been cut. It's in the interest of the government to keep Mexico City's airport in chaos so that people "choose" to fly from the new one. Should he win the Presidency in 2024, one pre-candidate has already promised to close this brand new airport and finish building Norman Foster's flooded project. Go figure!
