ooh, love them both! and great repair too, love the wheels. :) the taillights look nice, too, too bad the details aren't too visible, but one can still see them, so no fail here. and never mind the glass inserting, guess how the people at MB's assembly line felt with some castings... XD as for the deteriorating paint, I have seen it before once. not sure, either, maybe the paint's hardener deteriorated, or they used some thinner to clean it from marker overpaint. I'm assuming nitro paint thinner, as it is most common. I have a casting ny GAMA which has been overpainted with silver, and then washed off, which burned the glasses crispy. maybe even beyond any repair... good thing the casting isn't that rare, I found better ones already. but, still.

You out did yourself Peter. I always prefer look of decals to stickers. Stickers always look so cheap. I always have a soft spot in my heart for the old Dukes of Hazzard. Lucky viewer getting a shout out again. Is that canopy glue you using or just PVA? I'm trying to think of a cheap way of printing in white. A sinking maybe buying replacement white ink and then cleaning refilling the black cartridge with white. Cheers Graham.

This was in my click bait and curiosity got the best of me. In a million years I would never have suspected such interest or a hobby centered around restoring old Gorgi's and then to see a 26 minute video produced on one toy vehicle. It's brilliant! and thanks for sharing and letting me see something else of the world's wonders. Touche'

Excellent job. What size drill bit do you use for the screws?
@PBsRetroRestorations6 күн бұрын
Thank you very much. I use a 1.5mm drill bit, an M2 tap for the thread and M2x5mm hex head cap screws. I know it doesn't look 'factory' but if I get it wrong (and I often do 😂) I can just unscrew it and try again. My apologies for the delay in getting an answer to you.

Thank you, I try to get close with colours and such, but I find these days I don't stress about it as much as I used to. As you know, you could line five originals of any casting up, and they'll all be different shades for different reasons. Thanks for watching.

Well done, PB.The tires look too big.This casting uses the same tires as the AEC fire engine.
@PBsRetroRestorations6 күн бұрын
Thank You Terry! I think you're right, while being smaller than the ones I had (which I >think< came from a K10 Pipe Truck) they are still too close to the arches. Thanks for the AEC info, I'll have to get a set of those.

looks so much better. :) sound was good, too. the crooked body seems to have been stepped on, which could explain why the ramp slid out. one solution could have been to use two shorter axles with big mushrooms and connect them in the center with a piece of brass tubing. would have saved you a liter of blood or two. XD the replacement glass es I've seen all don't come with that tongue that keeps the ramp up in place. maybe because the replacements are made of resin, not polystyrene... but that leaves the problem of how to add a spring to that ramp. one of these days I'll experiment with a cable tie glued to the floor. a white one shouldn't be too obvious. or maybe a black one? I have the same truck, all tyres on, only one crack in the roof. but still playworn. I have a feeling the shrinking of them hubs comes from UV rays exposure; the more it gets played with outside, or the longer it resides on the windowsill, the more the hubs shrink. even the paints would fade; I have a scout car in mint condition, only that the yellow has faded to a dull tan over half of the casting. :P sometims when putting these together it makes one wonder what tricks they had at the assembly line... surely this can't go together? XD
@PBsRetroRestorations6 күн бұрын
Hi Lothar! So the ramp is supposed to be spring loaded? I didn't know that. I almost bought a first series MOY Bentley once because it was a weird blue colour, but on closer inspection it was green that had gone funny from the sun.
@lotharrenz46215 күн бұрын
@@PBsRetroRestorations Yep, many times the plastic strip connected to the glass insert between cabin roof and roof window, is snapped or has lost tension. and the repro I saw in some video, doesn't have that spring... maybe because of the material they used? yeah, I once bought a late Matchbox 65 Mustang because it had spoke wheels, turned out it was a former Superfast with broken suspension piece where someone glued spoke wheels onto. the rather nice paintcoat misled me. :P

Bet yer boots I enjoyed the video, PB......... lovely restoration 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻 And therein lies the rub. Restorations are tricky far more often than do-ups/mods cos of not having the wiggle room to get out of the cacky. It certainly happens to me more often than not. Still, it makes for great entertainment watching someone else go through it......and with good grace to boot. Nice one, Blue! Keep 'em coming!
