I’m working on this same pattern and am stuck on the decreases- the first row of decreases is in a color B row, and k3tog stitches 10,11,12- which is a stitch, yo-stitch, and a stitch. However, it needs to result in a yos to maintain the pattern (otherwise there will be 3 regular stitches in a row with no yo). Does this problem make sense? Did you make a video of how you did the decreases? They wrote that part of the pattern a bit wonky and confusing and I’m stuck! Any help is appreciated, I know this is an old video! Thanks!

Can you do a video on how to fix mistakes in double brioche knitting?
@K2TOGAlbury
@K2TOGAlbury 8 жыл бұрын
+agarygirl I would not try to fix mistakes in double brioche, it would be as bad as trying to fix lace. I would suggest using the Rescue line technique, where every so often, you thread a piece of cotton through all the stitches on your needle and leave the ends hanging out. That way if you make a mistake, you simply take the stitches off the needle, unravel the knitting, and it will automatically be stopped at the rescue line. Then put the stitches back on the needle and keep going. I'm sure there are videos on this technique if you search.

+Judy Philips Sorry I can't remember, about 6mm perhaps. The main thing is to make sure the hole in the middle is large enough for your needle and yarn to go through.

I'm just beginning this pattern, but ithe pattern itself calls for a YOS, yarn over, slip, rather than a slip, yarn over as you're doing. Does it matter?

I just don't get it! I've worked on this all day!! The problem is I knit left-handed so I'm watching my computer in front of a mirror but it's not working. Do you have any suggestions. I used a different video for the set up row and I think I finally figured that out - but I don't know which is an A row and which is a B row - and which color to use for which row. Now I'm determined to figure this out - because I can't and it's a real challenge for me.

greyctbird Sorry you're having problems with this. Have you watched the video right through? Because I do explain towards the end what to look for in your knitting rather than just following the pattern. Perhaps try to do brioche on two needles first before you try it in the round.

Hi Allyson, Sorry I don't have a video of that, but just join the new colour by tying it onto the working yarn like you would if doing a normal colour change.

Just tie the yarn onto the working yarn at the beginning of the row as if you were changing colours normally. You can sew the ends in later.

Thank you so much for this, and "judy's magic cast on with dpn" video. I am using dpn's currently but have ordered several circulars and they are on their way!!! Such a difference between the two with regards to ease of use. I almost gave up on my first pair of socks because I couldn't get my fingers to manipulate the tiny needles. After the first sock, the second has been so much easier. (Only just started the second sock). Thank you again.

Hi Abby, Sorry I'm so late replying to you. I know I do it the opposite way, but I find the OTHER way is what causes the twisted stitches. My way seems to work better - for me anyway!

K2TOGAlbury Agreed. I have seen other tutorials and they end up having to knit into the back of the second set of stitches as the stitches are twisted. Your way makes good sense.

I notice that you wrap your yarn on the back needle the opposite way to some other tutorials i.e. you come up between the needles then over to the back, rather than over from the back, down between the two needles (see knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html). Is this intentional? Will this just twist the stitch?

Congratulations! Well done for succeeding with this technique. Once you've done toe-up I think you always want to do them that way, so many advantages.

Thanks for preparing this - it was very helpful for me. My first pair of socks was on DPN (top down) and I was very nervous about toe up and the JM cast on. I was even more nervous about trying it on circulars. Your explanation was great and it worked the first time. I'm so pleased! I'm still a novice knitter but even I can do this!
@K2TOGAlbury

It's not that you're dumb, it's really complicated. That's why I'm trying hard not to laugh in the video cos it's just a mess :) I would definitely not recommend trying this unless you're very used to knitting in the round on DPNs already. I think the cast on is much easier using Magic Loop circular technique (see my other video). If you like, you can switch back to DPNs after a few rounds.

Actually, once you get the hang of it, you can get into a bit of a rhythm. I think it's a better way than sewing them on later!

Hi there. No you don't cut the yarn. You simply thread all the beads onto the yarn one after the other, then slide them down to the ball and cast on and knit as normal. Then when you are ready to place a bead, just slip it up from where it is waiting for you!
@maritemusic

Every time you thread the beads you cut the yarn? So it is full of knots? Please let me know, that is a question I would like to know for long time.. Great Video !! Thanks!

I would cut that section out and tie a knot joining the 2 pieces. Then knit a stitch as close as possible either side of the join. You won't even notice in the finished scarf.
@K2TOGAlbury
@K2TOGAlbury 13 жыл бұрын
Just cast off normally until you have one stitch left. Cut the yarn (if you need to) until there's about 4 inches left and draw through the last stitch. Pull really tight. Then I just thread the end through another cast off stitch and did another knot until I felt it wouldn't come undone. You could also scrunch the end up to the cast off edge and sew it down with a matching thread.
