Hi Tabi. You are doing a great jobs by creating these informative videos. I am intending to join a MSW program in the US. Of course my dream is to become a medical social worker. Could you recommend 5 universities in the US which provide good MSW program which will help me pursue my dream career? (they say Arizona State University is great?)

Hey Tabi, I am a newly graduated Masters of Social Work student (in Australia) who is about to start my first post-graduate social work role in a hospital. Thank-you so much for creating and posting these videos, in particular this Biopsychosocial Assessment video. As a student on placement at a hospital I found conducting biopsychosocial assessments a little bit 'invasive' at times and I didn't really have a methodical process such as how you describe in your video. I enjoyed your tips on setting time periods for assessments, verifying information with the patient after reading the face sheet, and utilizing non-verbal observations. I will probably use a variation of your intro as it is very concise and clear for the patient and sets those boundaries right from the start,

This is great! Do you have videos about social workers saying they are “clinical” bc they have experience working in a medical setting
@cullen22805Ай бұрын
No, it's because their Master's degree is more clinically focused on direct patient care vs. Macro.

But it’s the hospital goal to push people out as fast as possible. It’s usually premature and results in an unsafe discharge and high rate of rapid re-hospitalizations

Hi Tabi, thanks so much for sharing. Quick question, there are a lot of video on youtube about medical social work in ER units, what about those in different unit, like oncology. It seems like ER the role of a social worker is like a discharge planner, but I wonder how other roles might look like? What about follow-up appointment, brief solution-focused therapy, CBT? Many thanks!
@socialworkmastery8 ай бұрын
That's a great question! I did Oncology Social Work in both the inpatient setting and outpatient setting. There is some discharge planning but a lot of it is psychoeducation, care coordination, connecting patients to resources, solution focused brief therapy, mindfulness based therapy, CBT and supportive therapy. I did individual therapy and ran support groups. I'm happy to make a more detailed video in the near future! Thanks for your support!

@zaidydel71458 ай бұрын
It's an anxiety provoking step to take! SW is a great field to be in!🥰The essay is about you. Who knows you better than yourself? Speak of your life experience (whatever that looks like marriage, divorce, children, loss. etc), your values [look at the NASW Code of Ethics and see if those values match your own] and connect them to how your family and experiences have shaped you to be the person you are today. And how all of that will make you a great social worker to help the population you enjoy working with. SW is about the person-in-environment. So, you're basically showing the college how your environment and systems have impacted you and the ways you've used that to move forward past your adversities. We all live them, write about them. God bless you!
