Don’t know if anyone looks at the comments now but I just wanted to say that I’m a new fan of Mr. Frid’s. I watched DARK SHADOWS beginning to end although it aired before my time. I love him as Barnabas Collins and I love to here him speak. I love his voice. RIP Jonathan. Love you.

I just found this info. about Jonathan Frid from a large Official Facebook Grp and from an official website as well. >>>>> "" Mr. Frid was a proud Canadian. When he retired he moved back to Ontario Canada where he had family and many friends. Jonathan Frid never married ( obviously ) and he never had any children. However, he was survived by his beloved cousins and his brother's children, and by his Grand niece and nephews who loved and adored him. They called him 'Uncle John'. He was dearly loved. Mr. Frid was not a religious man so there was no ceremony after he died. He never liked to be fussed over and he did not want a funeral nor a memorial. He preferred to be remembered alive and enjoying life. Mr. Frid did not want a final resting place in fear of the many obsessive fans he had who would seek out the grave of 'Barnabas Collins' and set up memorials and write graffiti about his character. He didn't want fans to put him up on a pedestal like a movie idol. He never wanted that kind of attention. Jonathan Frid said that many fans had trouble separating him, the actor from the character he had played. Fans would address him as Barnabas instead of his real name and they'd ask him a lot of 'vampire' related questions. He did not want those kinds of obsessive fans to bother his relatives . Mr. Frid would often say that he was nothing like his Barnabas character. He also stated several times that he would like to be remembered for more than just his work on Dark Shadows. He had twenty years of acting experience before he even appeared on the TV show and several years of doing dramatic readings in his reader's theater and in his one-man shows and his tour with the play, Arsenic and Old Lace with actors Marion Ross, Jean Stapleton and Larry Storch. Mr. Frid was so much more than just his Barnabas character. R I P ."" He is missed by his relatives, friends, fans and by his community.

However, his health both mental and physical were in decline. He was experiencing the beginnings of Dementia . Had he lived longer the quality of his life would have just kept going down. From what I read he was a very proud Man

While teaching Language Arts for 7th graders, we had the Tell Tale Heart in our literature book. I had seen Jonathan on Facebook and texted him about the video where he did the monologue of the Tell Tale Heart. I was trying to find the DVD. He was very kind and posted that monologue and it was great to watch him dressed in black and simple lighting. Sitting backwards in a wooden chair. That dark brown hair of his, his brown eyes. And he recited the piece like listening to a friend tell a story. It was great. Never did get the DVD but that one treat was wonderful and well remembered. So anytime I hear him do it I pause to listen.

I never had a passion for poetry. Just could not get into it and hated when I had to have classes in poetry in high school. However, if I could have taken a class with Jonathan I do believe I could have gotten into the moments he gave. His readings would have kept me captivated. Heard he had wanted to teach acting etc. and I guess a poetry class. Only thing I hope he would have graded on the curve as I don't think I would have been an A student. Blessings Jonathan.

He wanted to go to California to seek a position as a Drama teacher at the colleg level . He never mentioned anything about the poetry but the acting and directing were his main passion from early on. His Grandmother thought he would have made a good Minister because of his commanding stage presence but Mr. Frid said that he was never religious although he respected his family's religious beliefs, he did not follow them nor any other. He stated that he wanted to follow his own path and make his own destiny. He finally finally did get a chance to direct in his older age. He directed a play called The Lion in Winter that co stared former Dark Shadows actress Marie Wallace.

In the first one he became very emotional when talking about his childhood home. So many memories I am sure he didn't talk about because of the short visit. I only wish I could have met him in the day. He retired I hear from the media etc. Seems from what they said that he left us shortly after this video was made. I know we can't live forever on earth but I wish Jonathan could have had the blessing of living a bit longer. He is missed still and another generation coming up will discover him and DS and will wish they had been living to meet him also. Good video.
