Jonathan, we met back in NYC in the 80's when I had written a fan letter to WNBC celebrating the return of DS reruns to NYC. If you remember, it went to the VP there and I was then contacted & invited to PR event at Le Magique. Subsequently I had the privilege of being one of several DS fans who watched you test perform your show at your NYC apt. I am now married, semi-retiring and going to Az to teach. You complimented my "intelligent" letter, and I'll always remember your kindness. Best!

Mr. Frid, I met you when you played a small theater in Indiana where you read some Poe. You allowed me to come backstage I am now starting my 5th watch through the entire television series. The more I watch it, the more brilliant an actor I think you are. I am now 49 and I don't run home from school to watch you anymore but I still watch 43 years later and marvel at every scene you did. I want to thank you for all of the joy (and terror) you have given me throughout my life. Hats off to you!

When I was a little girl, my brother would tell me that Barnabas Collins lived in the house across the street from ours (it was abandoned). While I would sometimes sleep with the covers up to my chin, I secretly hoped Barnabas would fly into my room. :-) Gone but certainly not forgotten.

hey jonathan i am 47 years old and seen my first dark shadows episode about 6 months ago on netflix and since the have become completely hooked. ive recently viewed up to the color episodes beginning. i am sure netflix has alot to do with some of the renewed interest in the show. it sure got me thank you for this gift i find the show just fascinating thank you

People have to remember that Jonathan is 86 almost 87 years old, we are very lucky that he is still here with us and that he does all that he does for his Dark Shadows fans. He is getting older and doesn't have the energy or stamana that he had a few years ago. I think it is great what he does for us and how he makes the videos for us and does the readings for us. I am just glad he is still here with us. Jonathan Frid is the greatest. We love you Jonathan.

I'm amazed at the people who go to the festivals. I went only once to see a famous person. It was a surprise outing by my husband and son. Unknown to them I was sick to my stomach standing in front of such a well known face and a perfect stranger at the same time. It really made me ill. I very much enjoyed this video. Intimate and gracious and it didnt' make me ill. LOL I do enjoy reading about the experiences of others who are brave enough to go. It's very kind of them to share.

I haven't been a fan of Dark Shadows for very long. I found out about the series from my fiance a year ago. The first episode I saw was when Barnabus came along. I fell in love with the series. And I'm 28 years old. I'm sure most of the fans are much older. But recently I have seen more younger people around my age starting to watch it now. Jonathan may be gone but he will not be forgotten. The younger generation will remember him as well as others that have passed on from the series...

Mr. Frid! Oh my God I am so glad you are still alive and you look great! There are tears in my eyes as I watch this! I watched Dark Shadows when I was like 4 years old in the late '60s and then in '75 when it came back on TV and then in LA in the mid-'80s and then in NY in the late '90s, watching again and again! You look fantastic and I wish you well and many more years of happiness! You rock, Mr. Frid!!!

@kehara1000 I honestly recommend getting the entire collection (Amazon had it for as little as $25.00 a volume). I' m going back to collect the "Beginning" (pre-Barnabas episodes). Dark Shadows one of the all time grate TV shows, as both art and artifact.

I was only 5 years old when the series premiered but, remember watching it with my sister...when i wasn't too frightened by it! I'm glad to see you are still doing well! I just found this info. about Jonathan Frid from a large Official Facebook Grp and from an official website as well. >>>>> "" Mr. Frid was a proud Canadian. When he retired he moved back to Ontario Canada where he had family and many friends. Jonathan Frid never married ( obviously ) and he never had any children. However, he was survived by his beloved cousins and his brother's children, and by his Grand niece and nephews who loved and adored him. They called him 'Uncle John'. He was dearly loved. Mr. Frid was not a religious man so there was no ceremony after he died. He never liked to be fussed over and he did not want a funeral nor a memorial. He preferred to be remembered alive and enjoying life. Mr. Frid did not want a final resting place in fear of the many obsessive fans he had who would seek out the grave of 'Barnabas Collins' and set up memorials and write graffiti about his character. He didn't want fans to put him up on a pedestal like a movie idol. He never wanted that kind of attention. Jonathan Frid said that many fans had trouble separating him, the actor from the character he had played. Fans would address him as Barnabas instead of his real name and they'd ask him a lot of 'vampire' related questions. He did not want those kinds of obsessive fans to bother his relatives . Mr. Frid would often say that he was nothing like his Barnabas character. He also stated several times that he would like to be remembered for more than just his work on Dark Shadows. He had twenty years of acting experience before he even appeared on the TV show and several years of doing dramatic readings in his reader's theater and in his one-man shows and his tour with the play, Arsenic and Old Lace with actors Marion Ross, Jean Stapleton and Larry Storch. Mr. Frid was so much more than just his Barnabas character. R I P ."" He is missed by his relatives, friends, fans and by his community.

If he had not had the fall and pneumonia I believe he would have been with us for a longer time. I hate I missed ever meeting him. Just got back into DS a few months ago.

However, his health both mental and physical were in decline. He was experiencing the beginnings of Dementia . Had he lived longer the quality of his life would have just kept going down. From what I read he was a very proud Man
