1453 constantinople fethinden sonra Osmanlıda adı değişmez. Basılan osmanlı parasında da adı aynı kalır. Kurtuluş savaşından sonra şehri Türk'leştiren Atatürk, adını da İstanbul yapar, 28 mart 1930 da resmileştirir. Hükümet yabancı ülkelere ihtarname çekerek, constantinople yerine İstanbul, angora yerine Ankara, smyrna yerine İzmir kullanılmazsa, tüm yazışmaların iade edileceğini belirtir ve yapar. Tüm dünya ülkeleri bunu kabul eder, mektupları iade edilmemesi için toplumunu da ikna etmek amacıyla, 1953 yılında meşhur kanadalı Four Lads grubuna bu müziği yaptırır. Son cover 1990 yılında they might be giants tarafından yapılmıştır.

Wrong. The original melody is from Irving Berlin. The song is called "Puttin on the Ritz". Nat Simon composed "Istanbul Not Constantinople" with very similar, almost identical melody but did not realize that or stole it. Nobody knows.

I first heard thus in Umbrella Academy and absolutely loved the song, as well as They Might Be Giants. I agree entirely with the commenter who said he usually liked studio recordings of songs. However, in the case of this song and band, their live recording of this song is far superior to the studio version. Also the acoustic guitar playing this song certainly should have begun to smoke as a result of the speed of the player. I had never heard this song before Umbrella Academy used it, and I just loved it. Bah-boom! And then, as a guitar player and lead singer from rock bands before joining the military. Irrespective, I still played and sang, but I left my "rock star" image far behind me for good reason. They Might Be Giants blow this song up live, and turn this song into an anthem for live music being incredibly storming and incendiary music that inspires players like into picking up our instruments again. This was just completely fantastic. Loved it.
