I have been watching your videos to help identify some of the birds we see around here. We have a great Horned Owl and lots of other birds that hang out on our property. It's always fun to see the many different birds. Merry Christmas! 😊🏜️

Very interesting. In Southern California we have Allen's hummingbirds who are very closely related to rufous hummingbirds. Some small differences, like adult male Allen's usually having a mostly green back, and slightly different tail feathers. Some Allen's migrate but we have a subspecies in SoCal who stays all year, S. sasin sedentarius. It's nice to have them and Anna's all year. I think I have seen occasional probably-Rufous hummers stopping by, likely on migration. The rufous and Allen's are both very aggressive to each other!

I love the Rufous too! They're amazing and definitely easy to distinguish from others. We have plenty of them, Douglas County, CO.

Awesome video! As per migration when is the best time to go to see multiple species 🫠gosh that would be so fun!
@BirdsandMore23765 ай бұрын
@@ontariorubyreds7965 thanks for watching! March through early May then August into September are prime migration for most of our hummers. Being in a migration corridor in Sky Islands os SE AZ you can pretty much go to any of the canyons to see them. The Beryline breeds here but I didn't have photos and video of that one. Lol. Maybe next summer! Happy birding!

@@BirdsandMore2376 amazing tysm for the info! 😀 , and thanks 😂now I'll have to add a new place to my list 🫠. Hard calls because we still have ruby migration here as well at those time, and I have serious fear of missing out. 😂

I would like to visit that area. Any recommendations on places to stay or the time of year for the best birding experience?
@BirdsandMore23765 ай бұрын
There is a resort next to Ramsey Canyon, an RV park also near Ramsey Canyon. Sierra Vista is centrally located so it can be a base station to visit other top birding areas an hour or so away. With BnBs, hotels, camping you will have an excellent experience. I recommend La Casita Mexican restaurant on Fry in Sierra Vista, also Indochine for Asian food. Sandhill cranes are at Willcox Playa and Whitewater Draw from November to March. Both are about an hour from Sierra Vista. Hope that helps. Happy birding!

Hummingbirds are my favorite bird. Unfortunately, I think their population is declining.
@BirdsandMore23765 ай бұрын
@@EverFlo777 I love hummingbirds, too! Populations are declining. It is concerning but not panic mode. Habitat loss is an issue and since we know we can hopefully take steps to mitigate. Thanks for watching!

I bought a Bird Buddy in the last week of May. Since that camera only picks up birds and I get a lot of deer in my yard, I sprung for a more well-rounded bird cam (it's a modified home recurring cashes that identified birds, pets, people, cars, and packages, individually. It's pretty awesome). Well, since I liked those cameras so much, I got a hummingbird camera. THEN, since the cameras only reach so far, and Amazon has a bundle deal for my existing bird feeder (the all- around one) and a trail cam that doesn't need wi-fi to work, I bought THAT. So a little over a month later, I've dropped quite a bit of cash on my bird and critter obsession but I've learned tons in that sorry time and am loving it more each day! I've also picked up patterns and can recognize individual birds of the she species now (e.g. I can tell which cardinals have stopped by, who's paired to which mate, etc.). Sorry for writing so much. I could nerd out about birds ad nauseum😅 Thanks for the videos!❤

We embrace them alright. They are never allowed to successfully nest on our property. Same tactics with starlings. We protect our native bird species around here. You do a disservice to our native birds.
@praxis-cat8707 ай бұрын
I am beholding them. Despite people not liking them because they're invasive, it's not the bird's fault, and I can't help but loving them.
