What was your max speed and average speed during the tour?

The video was very entertaining. You did a great job, especially since it was your first. I make some videos in my Citabria and they are hard to put together. I don’t think people realize work that goes into them. I also like your Google Earth inserts with the yellow lines around the runways. I might have to copy that. Thanks again, Looking for Some new ones when you get them done.

a very informative video Ben . I am Pitts fan, have even flown in one and got to fly it briefly ( a S 2 B ) ... and have 2 RC model ones. I have to rate doing a tail slide in a Pitts is one of the coolest feelings I have ever had in my life.

hey man! it has been a long time since you posted a video, but I wanted to say back in 2019 I first saw your video of buying your plane and flying it across the country and it has been my dream ever since, I hope life turned out great! and you will post another updated video soon!

Hey Man! I know it’s been a minute 😅 but I appreciate you checking in and still following along! Im happy, healthy, and still flying so what more could you ask for? Awesome to hear that, if it’s your dream you can definitely make it happen, it’s worth it! I’m working on a long video right now, unfortunately not aviation related, but I hope to get back on the aviation content horse eventually. It’s just really hard to dedicate a bunch of time to editing as KZbin is not my full-time thing 🙃 thanks for the comment though, I appreciate it and it’s motivating!

So why does it smoke so bad when opening the throttle? For me and most aerobatic taildragger pilots, the normal way for landing is slip for visibility, keep nose in 3-point landing attitude on final and control sink rate and speed with power. Always 3 point, never on the main wheels.

Well Ben, you surprised me by landing at my home airport, Monroe, Louisiana. Birth place of Delta Airlines. Nice Pitts. Also, my dad was stationed at McClellan AFB there in Sacramento, between 1958 and 1961. He was an engine mechanic on the RC-121 Warning Star.

Your in check with rules & regulations. In flying & learning...give you credit for that.... On the other hand my dad who retired from FAA as sector chief..did not approve of flying disorderly over Roof tops of where he lives ...went over to house & said I can have your licence revoked Thay we're drunk & flying.

i always land the Pitts S1T with a tight pattern, perfectly square downwind/base/final and go to idle all they down final approach (which means a very tight pattern and steep enough final plus a little extra steepness for a little slip if you want) all the way to flare. Two reasons: 1) you can see the runway just fine at idle due to the steep approach; 2) and more importantly this trains your brain to survive an emergency engine out landing one day (no chance if you always land with power). The bad habit of dragging it in on final with power means you can't even see the end of the runway and a difficult-to-manage sudden change in energy at flare. WARNING, if you flare below 95 expect a mini accelerated stall and prop strike at flare as the sharp change in angle from the at-idle glide slope to horizontal can put you below accelerated stall speed if slow (don't fix the problem with power; fix it with proper airspeed). The energy is gone immediately after this steep approach flare. Fly a normal tight square pattern - at idle for the entire final including flare - don't flare below 95 mph - one bounce means go-around-no-exceptions. Say to yourself on final "this will probably be a go-around unless it sticks first try. Never ever try to save a Pitts bounce. And avoid the "big sweeping 180 deg approach" style Pitts landing because this is just a bad workaround for the lack of visibility problem when you carry power on final. Keep the pattern so tight that a dead stick landing is within range. And more importantly, power-off final all the way through rotation is way more fun and satisfying!
