I found this novel extremely well written, I think we can face the dilemma you outline because the author looks after us so well. I'm concerned about this situation with Flora although we know it would never have worked out given her father. Why did he defile her? I don't think enough is made of when he walked in on Lachlan Broad with all intensive purposes raping his sister. We know what would have happened if she'd said `no`.

A very good presentation. This battle is routinely regarded as having an inconclusive outcome but I think, at the end of the day, that Sherriffmuir must be regarded as a victory for the Hanoverians. Argyll halted Marr in his tracks which fulfils his strategic objective and held the field with an army that was half the size of his opponent's. That's the tactical aspect covered. Of Argyll's army, only the Buffs, the Royal North British Fusileers and the Scots Greys were Veterans of Marlborough's Army of Flanders (roughly one fifth of the entire Hanoverian army) The remainder were garrison troops from Ireland and units that had been reconstituted in the aftermath of the Almansa disaster with little to no combat experience.

Superb video! Created with great attention to detail and clarity. Bravo! All my music students shall view this video. The pianist looks a bit like Jane. It's also interesting that he dedicated two Nocturnes to Jane. Did he dedicate anything to Lind?
@theyellowdukesscotland499 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Colorado. I am pleased you liked it and I am flattered that you will show the video to your students. I am not certain but I don't think Chopin dedicated any works to Jenny Lind. He only knew her for the last two years of his life during which time he composed next to nothing.

During my young years as a detective trainee, I was like a miniature Monk (TV series). I would use those "powers of observation/deduction" to note that two nocturnes were dedicated to Jane and that she was the only one who Chopin indicated his true date of birth. I don't feel Jane would feel comfortable in Chopin's praise, dedications, etc. as being a front. Indeed, she did do a lot for Chopin, not only financially, but all those other tasks she took upon herself. And, you are a wonderful actor. I know my actors. I work with actor friends from Jurassic Park, It's a Wonderful Life, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, and many television series. You did a great job as the individual from the Glasglo Herald.

Thank you SO much for sharing this. It is an excellent way of explaining a wonderful craft. This very afternoon, I finished my first Sporran for a friend of mine in Peebles. It’s just a plain day Sporran with tassels made from veg tanned cow hide which I cut, dye and sew by hand too. A lovely excursion from the wallets and bags I normally make. I hope it won’t be my last!

Thanks for your kind comments, Hofi. I put a lot of work into that video - research, writing, presenting, acting - so it's good to be appreciated. And Catriona's performance of the Chopin nocturne at the end was so great and gave my video a touch of class. She has just graduated with first class honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Brilliant pianist with a bright future.
@HofiAgilAghov2 жыл бұрын
@@theyellowdukesscotland499 That's fantastic. I actually played this Nocturne myself when graduated from Conservatory at age 17, prior to my academic music studies, and never knew it was dedicated to anyone, let alone that there was a Scottish woman name Jane Stirling in Chopin's life. It's interesting to study Chopin's complicated relations with the Islands, as if I recall he felt estranged in England during his time spent there but was well influenced by Irish composer John Field, and had the Scottish Jane Stirling as a key figure in his story. Best of luck to you sir and Ms. Catriona. Regards from Israel.

what were your sources of information, which books did you read and how did you manage to get accurate maps of the battlefield as the OS map shows the battle site further away to the north east. there are said to be two large pits were the some of the bodies were buried but were later moved, do you know their location, is it near the gathering stone?
@theyellowdukesscotland4992 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimi. My two main sources were "Battles of the Jacobite Rebellions" by Jonathan Oates, published in 2019. And a marvellous 60-page booklet called "The Battle of Sheriffmuir" by local historian Bill Inglis, published in 2005. This booklet is reckoned to be the best single work on Sheriffmuir because the author not only has very good local knowledge but his text draws heavily on twelve eye witness accounts to painstakingly recreate the course of the battle. The booklet also has several maps and diagrams showing the movement of troops which greatly aid the reader in understanding what was a confusing battle. I am sorry but I don"t know anything about these pits or the moving of bodies. Many bodies are said to be buried near the gathering stone but exactly where I am not sure.

Just after the gathering stone you’ll notice two sunken holes in the ground, they say many men are buried there. The house I live in now used to be a barn where the red coats hid and the owners before us found some buried in the garden
@theyellowdukesscotland4992 жыл бұрын
That's really interesting. Are you near The Linns or Stonehill Farm? You can perhaps infer from my description of the progress of the battle at what point those redcoats took refuge in your house (barn).
