Did you have to notify the DNO? I have a garden setup that was primarily used for a workshop, but with how much power I produced last summer I had a feeling it could run my entire house for at least full days. 4x 500w panels connected to Victron 150/45 2x 535w panel connected to Victron 100/20 1x 48v 6000/12000w peak PureSineWave Inverter 1x 2.5KW 48V battery Its connected away from the hosue so currently has its own earth rod, but I've been really interested to install something similar to power the house.

Hi, No you don't have to notify the DNO of a change over switch. Naturally you need to notify the DNO of any grid tied inverter now above 5kWh. Your setup is nice, however the inverter is not certified to be grid connected so you'd need to have a change over switch to disconnect from the grid if you wanted to power your home. Your battery is also quite small, so of course it would work, but you'd need to ensure plenty of sun on those panels and passing through to the battery to keep it all up and running. Good luck with the project, sounds like fun.

@nextdaysolar3349 I was making around 4.5/5kw per day with just 2 panels last year summer just gone and recently upgraded to 4 more. We use around 6kw per day so once the DChouse 48v batteries come back into stock I'll upgrade to another one totalling 5.2kw. Will be scheduling an electrician soon to install the change over switch! Thanks for your help!

Some useful information but where is the second video you mention in the comments. I have two portable EB240 battery backup units (each 2.4KWH) that I'd like to wire via a switch (I know I need the mains isolator first).

How did you go about actually fitting the panel to the van, please? I currently have a 2010 Renault kangoo extra 1.5cdi, and looking for how to fit panels to the roof, because of the ridges on the roof 😩

Yes, that would work, simple change over switch and then a fly lead out to your generator say 10-15m on an extension reel. If you are in London give us a shout and we can do it for you. Asher

Would be interested to know the rational for selecting solar panels with under 300W per panel, given the space on the various roofs? Is there a benefit from using all the same panel type? How many strings does the Libbi inverter support? Realistically how much use out of the EDDI get, assuming charging the battery with excess solar is prioritised? Will the cable routes for the solar panels be refined when the building works finished? What is the advantage of the Libbi system configured with backup board over the GivEnergy AIO and car charger? Appreciate that combination may not have been available at the time this system was specified.

Hand gestures where a bit off! 😂 clicking fingers or aggressive pointing has domestic abuse vibes! American gesticulations work for them because they don’t sound sincere, it doesn’t translate for people over 17 in the UK or EU to do such aggressive hand gestures/ finger gestures and clicks and culture wrist slaps! Apart from that everything else was spot on, who ever told him to be “young and relevant” from marketing needs sacking! 😂❤

This is really critical, agreed - I was surprised to learn that many battery installations require main power to function. While there's upside to a battery regardless, being unable to run during a power cut would really make me wonder why I actually got a battery :)

Iv got two 914i and they are piss poor.....Had to send them both back and they needed new circuits....They dont cut in till about 10knots and then make a tiny amount of watts....But if your wind is not completely constant it keeps cutting out so takes days to make one amp hour....Really not worth the money....Wish I had just bought more Solar because it far out performs these turbines.

Its a bad design really. even in GCSE electronics or physics they teach that a generator needs steel cores. the marlec generator is only copper coils and resin.

Depends on your local authority/area, typically if it's not the highest part of the roof i.e if a chimney stack is higher, planning permission not needed. If you obtain a free quote from us here, we can give you advice on this as well (we are London based however) nextdaysolar.co.uk/pages/quote

In Devon so unfortunately won’t be at the shop , do you have any plans to do a podcast from the shop ? Saw a small windmill in the wind not the tiny one the bigger out of the two, any information about small windmills or turbines that could fit onto a chimney that would charge a battery with wires down the chimney connecting to a fan heater = warm in winter, cool in summer if we actually get a summer.

Check our Marlec, wind turbines, and our video when we went there... 12/24/48v units, to be frank, I have solar on my roof with a 48v system, and my next step is a turbine on a chimney, I've been told its a waste of time, but I'd like to see for myself :)
