It would be interesting to know more about how the water from the dam was transported to the powerhouse. It must have been a pressurized/siphon system.

Nice! Have you thought about having one rod with a T handle or a L shape at the top so it had only one mounting point? Would give more room to also use as a passenger seat...
@RobBryce23 күн бұрын
We did consider that but it enough support for handle with just one point of contact on the seat. Two points of contact worked better
@cydog51022 күн бұрын
Also, clothing, rope or fishing line could get caught up, a closed loop at the top with 2 mounting points looks to be more sturdy and less likely to catch up on stuff. Good looking design and idea.

Hey rob, Just picked up a 14ft fishrite sled with an 89' yami pro50, medium jet drive. I assume its a 6 1/8 impeller. Boat had been sitting so I gave the carbs a once over and did a link and sink. Got out for the first time and noticed the hole shot was painfully sluggish. Bow kind of settled half way but then felt like it took about 20 seconds to finally reach top speed. First thoughs are weight distribution or the motors is just a little underpowered. The impeller and sleeve have defintely seen some better days and I'm down to last shim but I would love to hear your input as you seem more experinced than me on this stuff.
@RobBryce24 күн бұрын
@@loganfishbeard hmm could be a few things Is the intake up high enough? Is the reverse bucket creeping up over the pump at all in forward ? Like u said your liner and impeller am need a replacement if it’s already down to last shim. Is it plowing at full speed? Is the planing line at the back third of the boat ? Make sure the throttle is opening the carbs fully
@loganfishbeard21 күн бұрын
@@RobBryceThanks for reply! Intake seems about 1/2" on the low side but no water appears to be coming over the top of the shoe. Reverse gate is clear and snug. Carbs look perfect. Planing surface is just right once the boat gets there. I will try to get some gps speeds next time I get out on the water. I just don't want to drop $400 on a new impeller if what I really need is a $4 sandbag in the bow.

@@RobBryce Got the boat out a couple more times now. Redistrubuted some weight, weight and she got up on plane more reasonably with 2 small guys at about 18-19mph and topped out at about 26mph. Load down with a fat guy and couple extra 150# of gear I could not get the boat to plane on the last trip. I found a feeler gauge and measured impeller gap to be about .010 righht at the tips but closer to .040 about an inch up where the gauging is on the sleeve so that is technically out of spec. I raised the motor one hole on the mounting bracket and height feels perfect now. The boat is a heavy hull at about 600# dry weight 1000 with motors/gear. Will a new impeller/sleeve make that much difference or should I just look to go to something like a 70hp at this point. Thanks again, your videos have been a great tool to learn from.

ChatGPT says the 30 Yamaha peak power is around 5500 rpm. If this is true, then the 5 7/8 is producing more engine power than the 6 1/8, but the boat is going slightly slower. This implies that in the RPM range you've studied, the pump efficiency decreases proportionally faster than the engine power increases. Assuming an approximately flat torque curve of the 400 RPM range, then the 5 /78 power is about 8% higher, which means 8% faster fuel burn, to go slightly slower. So it appears that the 6 1/8 is the better choice. I wonder what is the specific engineering rationale for the "recommended" 5 7/8? Yamaha and Outboard Jets must make this recommendation based on... something?

The Strizh is self-bailing around the transom gaps. This means it is also self-filling when you stop quickly and the trailing wave piles up against the transom. Is this self-filling "feature" much of a problem?

The ideal clearance between an outboard jet's impeller and liner is between 0.025 in and 0.035 in NOT 0.25 or 0.35. Please correct me if I'm hearing this wrong.
