These recipients were honoured for their extraordinary bravery and commitment under extreme conditions. Here is a small list of heroes; there are literally hundreds more, focusing on military honour recipients from former British Empire colonies who were non-Caucasian, including notable individuals from Africa, India, the Caribbean, and other regions. My personal favourite is number 70: Princess Noor Inayat Khan (India), who was awarded posthumously in 1949 for her bravery as a Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent during World War II. This Indian Princess rolled up her sleeves and became a female James Bond. She was tortured to death by the SS after being captured in France. Meanwhile, British Princesses Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Margaret contributed to the war effort in different ways. Princess Elizabeth joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) in 1945, where she trained as a driver and mechanic. Her service included learning about vehicle maintenance and driving, which evidently contributed to her sense of duty and responsibility. Princess Margaret, although not directly involved in formal wartime roles, supported the war effort by participating in charity events, visiting wounded soldiers, and supporting various wartime initiatives. We played our part; even our royalty got stuck in and paid with her life. Unfortunately, our contribution is largely forgotten and brushed under the carpet Victoria Cross (VC) Recipients 1. Respect in military sense, but, it is no consolation that you preferred to be a mercenary for our country's enemy , the british raj rather than becoming a revolutionary for freedom of India
@SamsungKat2 ай бұрын
India wouldn’t be a country if the Axis alliance won the war. Do you really think the Germans and Japanese would have recognized Indian independence and allowed the Indian people live freely under better conditions than the British?
@rahulmig352 ай бұрын
@@SamsungKat enough of singing praises for the enemy that killed millions in India. It is not about what would have happened had axis won etc,it is more about the wrong glorification of becoming a mercenary
@SamsungKat2 ай бұрын
@@rahulmig35 they were not mercenary’s in my opinion, that’s were our viewpoint is different. But I agree in military sense we must respect anyone who serves. Governments and policies decide where war and battles happen not soldiers. I come from a family who served pre British raj, during British raj and after independence and I am proud of that. Much respect to you. I would consider you a brother.
@SamsungKat2 ай бұрын
@@rahulmig35 I don’t agree with your viewpoint. If you feel that strongly, make a comment to every single unit and division in the current Indian Army who still proudly display pictures and follow traditions of those who served pre-independence.
