when are people going to learn, if you don't have a drone or another boat don't bother, nobodys interested in seeing someone standing up the front of the boat.

you can kind of see why this boat needs all the freeboard it has because water splashes quite high up the sides

I'll never understand the popularity of this design. It must be one of the most unstable hull-forms ever devised. Every video I've seen of the GIS under sail shows them to be clumsy and tippy. I wouldn't build one of these on a bet.
@1Howdy1
@1Howdy1 8 жыл бұрын
They are pretty fast for their size and design, can move in light air, can be car topped and handled by one guy, easy to build. Good plans and a helpful community. Good boat for protected waters. A swampscott design might be more seaworthy, but there are trade offs. There has probably been more flat bottom boats built in people's garages than any other design.

I have sailed over 420 miles single-handed on my GIS during one trip along the Texas inland coast. Did 72 miles on my best day. It does take a skill set that some folks don't have and some don't wish to develop. It's a great boat to sail and have fun with. Check out my other vids and you can see both my wife and kids having fun with the boat. Including a few capsizes.

Small sailboat and hard wind, main sheet alway In your hand! Nice vídeo. Thanks for sharing it!
@johndtuttle
@johndtuttle 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. You and your crew should be out on that rail in those conditions. If your crew is not comfortable with her role, then a reef should have been placed in your main. Note also how you lose steerage as the boat heels and the rudder loses purchase....best to have the Main Sheet in your hand and not cleated off to de-power the rig at a moments notice in blustery conditions to prevent capsize...And more buckets next time :).
