My knowledge of farming is purely from FS22. In that game, i start out with $1.5m in my pocket for farming equipment, farmland doesn't cost more than 50k per hectare and i still operate at a loss for years. I don't make back what i spent on my initial equipment for years, i can't imagine what it's like for real farmers when real farmland costs millions and crop prices are a couple hundred dollars per ton... wth? These are the people supplying you with food...

Clarkson has sold out to the British government, beimg paid more to idle his farms rather than farming and producing food. Look it up!

This is silly in the best way. Props to Jacob for this. I intend to pull a similar stunt where I am here in Canada with both cereal rye and maize. The maize has already been planted, although it's too early - the variety I've chosen is supposèd to be tolerant to the freezes we get here until June, but I'm not holding my breath. I have not obtained the rye seed yet, and in any case it would be "bin-run" rather than a real variety (I am primarily going to be buying the grain for bread making; the seeding as a crop is secondary). I will also reap it using a scythe, which I bought for mowing my lawn before deciding I don't want a lawn at all.

He’s right on the money at the end. It really is a very nice way to spend your time. I absolutely love the show and I’m so happy to see that Clarkson has a side that none of us ever thought he did have. We have all seen him as petrolhead and an anti environmentalists but boy were we wrong.

When I first heard of the show on Amazon, didn't take it seriously as something to watch. Just thought it was Clarkson showing off about how rich he was that he could afford a farm. The show was interesting and seemingly truthful about the reality of how hard farming is.

Everyone involved with food production makes large profits except the farmer. Why is that. Struggling to think of another business that works in a similar fashion.

Farmers should be payed a hell of a lot more for wheat and milk. Supermarkets need to stop scamming farmers and our useless government should compensate for poor yields because of bad weather.

I’m inclined to give more weight to the farmer with 35 years knowledge of his land as opposed to some “research analyst” that did geography at university 5 years ago…. 🤔

When I used to travel around farms with my father in the 1960's Clarksons farm is what you used to see, a mixed farm, with some arable, a few cows, pigs, hens, true mixed farms, then we joined the EU and farmers specialised to get the most lucrative subsidies, and relied on them. Farms havve to be diverse to survive.

Even if some might be a bit cynical about the show (although I haven’t met anybody), I’d say Clarkson’s Farm has been a real boost for farming by informing people about how tough it is for farmers around the world, but also how rewarding and vital for us all.

I have small herd pedigree Herefords, I sold two at market and got 1100 each, over two years they cost me 1900 to produce. Work that out! No subsidies here as too small.

This is why US farmers farm on such scales. Feedlots or not. They have to. Farmers are the most demonized, scrutinized group of economic producers. Much can be blamed on food conceits of the consumer..
