Hey Greg. I love your work so much. I'm an artist as well, and this year I'm making it a goal to paint regularly, and often. I notice that if I let too much time go by, I get off the (figurative) horse and it can be very hard to get back on and in the creative flow. I follow your work on Facebook and I really admire how much work you produce, and consistently. Just wanted to say thank you so much for the continuous inspiration, and your talent is just absolutely magical! Cheers from Maine, Rachel.

Thanks so much Rachel! Yes, I find the same thing happens if I don't paint at least weekly. Sometimes it feels like I need to learn everything again! :) Thanks for watching!
@color20669 ай бұрын
@@GregHargarten I can definitely relate to that! Also, in case you're considering ideas for future videos, it would be so interesting to learn about your sketching/composition process, precisely how you decide to "pick and choose" what elements to showcase in your work when you're out in the field painting plein air. (Maybe you already have videos on that available - I have not finished binge watching haha) :)

Great video and super painting! My question, do you not use ANY water with your acrylics? I am an oil painter but trying to switch to acrylics. The Golden Open acrylics sound amazing! We reside in Central Alberta and as you know how dry the air is here, these would be perfect for plein aire painting!
@GregHargarten11 ай бұрын
I usually use water mostly when I am tinting the canvas before I start. The water thins the paint and allows a bright/transparent ground to paint over. I like covering the white canvas with a colour, it will always poke though in some places in the painting and often help give the piece some unity. Yes, the Golden Open paints are great for plein air and are the reason I switched in the first place.
@Group_of__11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your reply! I had no idea that Open Acrylics do not require water all of the time! Well, as soon as I finish a few hundered, or so it seems, of the paint tubes I already have, I will give it a go!

What an inspiring group of painters, "Men Who Paint"! We have been following your art journey together and appreciate what we learn about the landscapes you interpret through your individual art styles. Hi Greg, Really enjoyed watching your process in crafting your pigments from various and earth matter. Ive been making my own pigments for years now and am being asked more and more to facilitate workshops around my region in Australia. My main aim in commencing my journey was to ditch synthetics sold to us in single use plastic containers. Could you tell me why you go to all the trouble of creating your beautiful natural pigments only to make paint with an acrylic binder please? Thanks
@GregHargarten11 ай бұрын
Hi Maureen, our aim was to learn and experience making the pigments. Being a painter with a background in acrylics, the gel was the first thing that came to mind for me to use as a binder. The others used a variety of different binders. In future projects I think I'd like to try something more natural. What have you found works best or what could you suggest?
