Never seen this before. Fun Fact about the big raid in 1944, Harris had the attack centred on the middle of the town with the line of attack over the main industrial area. He hoped that all of the creep back that normally happened would trash the main industrial area. The Pathfinders put the red spot markers in the middle of the town and every almost every bomber following put their bombs on to the markers with next to no creep back.

Remember seeing this like that in the 70’s, flooding into the nearby farmers field, used to play around there when I was a kid ..

My wife was a nurse in a clinic at the hospital at which Jack Currie attended . She got into a friendly argument with Jack about the merits of theLancaster and the Halifax. At the time we had a good friend who had flown in the Halifax during the war.

I remember my grandad “a flight engineer with 514 Sqn”, watching this video. He was a very sober gentleman who didn’t show much emotion. But my dad said the scene in this documentary where “Sherwoods” aircraft hits the woods and explodes had a real impact on him. Was sad.

Hi ! I am writing to you from Grand Angle Productions, a production company based in France who is presently producing a documentary on the nullity of the marriage. The film will be aired on KTO, the French Catholic channel. It will aim at informing about is the nullity of a marriage. For this documentary I’m looking for old wedding footages. So, I am contacting you to ask for permission to use it. If you cannot grant it, would you kindly let me know who I should contact to grant such an authorization?

Over 46 Airfields in Lincolnshire dont know the few in Yorkshire. The video used for the bombers taking off is from Hemswell.
@anthonyeaton5153 Жыл бұрын
Are you sure of your figures. There were c50 airfields in Lincolnshire not 360. Your comment about not being sure about the few in Yorkshire is odd. There were two Bomber Command Groups in Yorkshire, 4 Group in the East and West Riding mainly HP Halifax and 6 Group Canadian HP Halifax in the North Riding. Suggest you broaden your reading of Bomber Command.

Story about Rod Rodley. He was doing the proving flights with the new 747. He went into Berlin and was cleared to a gate. He stopped on the taxi way to look at the plates to see where it was. The German controller called him and said " Speedbird 84, what wrong, have you never been to Berlin before"? Quick as a flash Rod said "yes I have been to Berlin before, but that was in 1944 and I did not stop"
@anthonyeaton5153 Жыл бұрын
There is also the story of just after war when commercial flying got going again. A taxiing German airline pilot complained asking why should we speak English. A growling reply from a former RAF bomber pilot retorted over the r/t, Because you lost the bloody war! Another was when an Ex BC pilot wasn’t sure of the taxiing rules and the controller asked haven’t you been to Frankfurt before, the BC pilot replied yes but I didn’t stay very long.
@Shamrock100Ай бұрын
Though Rodley retired in 1968, having last flown the Boeing 707. Also, given that BEA was the principal UK carrier to West Berlin during the Cold War, I don't think BOAC would have gone there. Maybe this is one of those Internet stories whose provenance is uncertain.
