This album is a masterpiece 😍 Still crazy to think that this album was absolutely slated and hated back in the day by the press, which one of the things that led to them splitting one album later

Hey! I'm glad to hear! It has been a loooong while since I uploaded, but that has a lot to do with just stuff going on with college and my life right now. I would definitely love to get back into it soon. Maybe with a few album reviews or stories... Anyways, thanks so much for still watching my videos, it really means a lot! :)

The song Fourth of July is about his grandmas passing and the lyrics dragon fly, my little loon and other parts in the song is the nicknames that his grandma use to give him this song is so beautiful I love if

Considered one of the top shoegaze albums of all time, the genre being relatively unknown means it's remained largely hidden. It does my heart good to see a young person discovering it and immediately hearing it the way I did when it was released. Masterful, ear filling - beauty. And I can attest to the fact that this album still gives me goosebumps however many years later.
@whispersinvenice Жыл бұрын
i’d argue that this sub-genre is more widely known than it ever was and that is a great thing because now we have nu-gaze and it nu-gaze introduces us to even more great acts.

One of the best albums ever, 13th Floor is so fucking underrated, I seem to be only gen Z guy in my area who knows who they are. It’s a shame that such a legendary band got a bit lost in history. Btw, that weird percussive sound is a guy basically making sounds into a kettle. And I love it

This is one of my favourite albums and I loved watching your reaction to it. I recommend listening to his album Age of Adz (2010). I feel like the musical journey of The Ascension really began back in Age of Adz.

It was great fun seeing your reaction to this legend. I guess you know now about about the electric jug. The neo-psychedelic movement of today puts The Elevators on top. They were sad ly 50 years ahead of their time. This must really surprise you.

this is my favorite album of all time,Sufjan's mother died,and the relationship between Sufjan and his mother is complicated,but Sufjan was very sad and depressed,that's why this album is full of sadness and depression💔

Gotta LOVE that electric jug. Love these sounds! Congrats on being one of the coolest young well-versed in 60s rock dudes I've seen on youtube. The style is captivating and really takes you back to a time we won't get to experience, but can only feel through the music. Rock on, friend!

As noted on the back of the album sleeve, the song Queen B*tch is a tribute to The Velvet Underground and their lead singer Lou Reed, whose vocals were known for being quite nonchalant, almost spoken. I always thought that with this song, Bowie did a really good job at capturing not only the essence of their musical and lyrical style, but also their major influence on him as a musician.
@Klui_3 жыл бұрын
You dared call Queen Bitch punky, the angry commenters shall not forget this. For real though, great to see you reacting to Bowie again!! Hunky Dory is a great album, and I feel like one of the easiest to digest (it's the one I always recommend when people wanna get into him). It's got some really pop tunes, but also some beautiful tracks that are in my list of favorite songs of all time, really a solid record. Also, I agree with you a 100% with the strings. When talking about Ronno's work with Bowie, the discussion always centers around his guitar playing (and I get it, he's absolutely legendary), but almost no one mentions his work on strings, which MASSIVELY helps both Hunky Dory and Ziggy, even carrying some of the songs. Hope you had a fun trip, and as always, I'll be waiting for your next reaction (if the lord can hear me, let it be Station to Station).
@raoulspov3 жыл бұрын
Uh oh… my ears have failed me once again lol So glad you enjoyed the reaction! The strings were definitely a huge highlight of the album for me. Also, you guessed correctly! I have the Station to Station vinyl in my collection, and ready to be listened to :)

Thanks for this! It was a much needed diversion. I've been listening to NMH almost religiously lately and it was nice to go back to my first love, Bowie. Pre Garson piano, Rick Wakeman. Bowie sure knew how to pick the best. Quicksand is still near to my heart a hidden gem. Have a good one, and thank u again!

Great to have you back Raoul. Now you know for sure that KZbin have it in for you maybe you can relax more and do more actual listening like the old days and just use KZbin to point the way to DailyMotion where you are free. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Hunky Dory more when you have a chance to sit with the lyric sheet and just enjoy the poetry and beauty of this magnificent album. Hope your trip to Greece was fantastic by the way, regards Barrie

Exit Music for a Film was written for the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack (the one with Leo D.). It’s about Romeo and Juliet. It wasn’t put in the film, but rather Talk Show Host was instead. So the brother (or the guy on the right) had it right without knowing it. He has good intuition and understanding of film.

I've enjoyed listening to Sufjan with you - really appreciate your enthusiasm for music! You asked whether Sufjan produced this album - confirming that he did produce the Ascension! Age of Adz is my favorite Sufjan album and I definitely get the sense you might really like it too. Illinoise is also worth the listen of course. This is a very different rec, but if you don't know them I feel like you might really appreciate Punch Brothers. I recommend checking out one of their live performances of "Familiarity" or the cover of Radiohead's "Kid A". Just extraordinary musicianship and creativity. Excited to check out the Bowie videos!
