James went on stage after asking to get paid for his performance they told him "fuck you this is woodstock 99 mother fucker" and he performed. Band just had to recuperate lol rest of the show was fye

He's 100% calling every shot there with his band. Chuck Berry demanded excellence with his crew like that too. Another thing they had in common? They both wanted CASH and wanted it UPFRONT 😅 Both seemingly been burned by promoters too many times! Legend has it (Netflix documentary) James was standing backstage waiting for his cash + more for this very performance BUT he knew not to let this crowd down and what a legendary performance he made it.

If you didn't see James in the 60s or 70s (70s for me) you didn't see James Brown. You just can't get an inkling of an idea how intense his show was back in the day. Its almost physically painful to watch him here, so far past his prime. Do yourself a favor and look up his concert in Zaire or something in that same general era.

I remembered being there on the front fence, which my cousin talked me into sleeping to watch Sugar Ray. I didn't care for them but told her I'd go there with her. She, and many others were so pissed when at the last minute they explained sugar was out and James brown was opening Woodstock. There was no getting out because everyone was packed in there 2 hours before.
