I don’t quite understand why people like him and others pretend or pose to be in the military, what are they hoping to gain from it?

A genuine Soldier would be very hostile if accused of being a fake and not into irrelevant chit chat.

I remember someone I know in Defence, even off duty in civvies was sitting down, but jumped to attention when a uniformed senior officer walked in. It was a grey-area civvie/professional situation, but my friend wasn't taking any chances til she was told to relax. If this guy was legit, he'd be straightening up automatically, not slouching and saying 'aw yeah' and jamming his hands in his pockets when he introduced himself.

Its a relief to see that Aussies have walts the same as us Brits. I was 2 Para 74-97 BUT, even if I hadnt served, you can just TELL this goon never served. Any normal squaddie would go APEshit at being called a fraud and could blast out a million things that would identify him as a real soldier. its a shame the vid ended when it did as I was looking forward to him struggling to give his Regtl number. Plus, in the British army, its a £50.00 fine to not have your service id on you at all times.

as a call of duty veteran, i never like to wear my army surplus shop uniform out of my house and I'm not sure why he would either.

You would also have a Retired personnel pass. What that means is you hand in your official army pass or navy or Air Force whichever and you are given a retired one as a result he could’ve cleared very quickly if he actually did have a Retired pass then he would’ve showed them that and All would’ve been well.

Haha. Service Number. Gotcha. Probably did not even memorise it. Personally, I did Kapooka for reserves, was digger james’d for the last week, I didn’t enjoy it so I left upon return to my home unit. Returned everything. I didn’t want to see or keep anything that reminded me of my brief stint trying reserves. Last thing I would do was wear a pair of DPCUs out in public.

Update : this guy was a clearance diver hence the veterans card, he's no doubt wanted to be a commando so just done a stolen valour attempt, no doubt got that coffee at a discount.
