I was so excited using this software trying to use a Canadian Solar utility inverter 350KW, which has 16 mppts... Then I realized i cannot have more than 1 inverter with mppts, and if I do, it can only have 4 PPTS I dont know how to go around this to simulate an 8MW solar farm
@SAMDemoVideos
@SAMDemoVideos Ай бұрын
This is currently a limitation in SAM. You only really need to model separate MPPT inputs for subarrays that have different string lengths, orientation, or shading. Please post any further questions on the SAM forum: sam.nrel.gov/forum.

Is this system sizing method sufficient enough to match load demand through the year, in which I don't. Someone who doesn't understand the in-depth PV system concept will think that this is the right way to size the system.
@SAMDemoVideos
@SAMDemoVideos Ай бұрын
This video is intended to help people learn how to set SAM inputs that determine the system size, not as a general guide for sizing PV systems. It uses an example where the available space on a residential roof is the determining factor. In other situations, factors such as the building load, limits on grid exports, cost, or others will be the determining factor of the system size.

So, SAM can't design for more than 4 subarrays?. How do you then do your string design for a large rooftop with more than 4 roofs with different orientations?
@SAMDemoVideos
@SAMDemoVideos Ай бұрын
There may be workarounds depending on the system design. For example, modules on different roof surfaces that have the same orientation could be modeled as a single subarray. It may also be possible to break the system up into separate cases and combine them. Please follow up on the SAM Forum if you have more questions or comments about this: sam.nrel.gov/forum.

hi, can I simulate my PV System from 2023 to uptill now in SAM..
@SAMDemoVideos
@SAMDemoVideos 5 ай бұрын
The simulation year depends on the weather file. To model the system for 2023, you will need weather data for 2023. The NREL NSRDB (nsrdb.nrel.gov) is updated annually -- as of now the data goes up to 2022. For other sources of weather data to use with SAM, including commercial sources that provide more recent data, see sam.nrel.gov/weather-data.

Currently doing a research for LCA photovoltaic, Do I need to set a real life situation of a photovoltaic system to be compatible with SAM ? Or SAM itself is a simulation to simulate the real life situation?
@SAMDemoVideos

SAM runs a simulation that represents the real life system. As the video demonstrates, you provide information about the system design and financial parameters of the project you would like to model, and SAM calculates the system's electrical output and financial metrics. Please use the SAM Forum at sam.nrel.gov/forum to post your questions about SAM.

At about 21:55, Dr Wagner talks about the scenario where the HTF pump is rated to the design power of the system. He says that, in this case, when the DNI exceeds the design-point DNI, energy has to be dumped from the system. This has raised two questions for me: 1. How would you go about dumping energy from the system? 2. What exactly does he mean by this? Is he saying the following: In this scenario, the maximum HTF flowrate that can be achieved by the pump is rated for when the DNI on the receiver is at design point. Therefore if/when the DNI on the receiver increases above the design-point, the pump is unable to increase HTF fluid flowrate further and therefore the HTF absorbs more heat/kg/s and thus the hot HTF temp will exceed the design temp (e.g. 565*C) ? It would be awesome if you could please answer my first question, and confirm whether I am understanding correctly in my second point. If my second point is even slightly incorrect, please could you correct me as I am not sure I fully understand the whole relationship between DNI/receiver flux, HTF flowrate and HTF temp. Any resources explaining the HTF flowrate control/design basis would be amazingly helpful. Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Dear, Hope you are fine. Actually, I am performing performance and economic analysis for a 10 MW PV plant using UAE weather data. However, when I simulate it its Net Present Value is always negative but for similar 10 MW (built-in) USA weather-based data, NPV is positive. For both of the above projects UAE based and USA-based 10 MW solar PV projects, all the settings/inputs are similar like a number of inverters, modules etc. The only thing I changed is to enter the coordinates of UAE in the location tab to enter the UAE location and its NPV turns out to be negative but for USA USA-based location, it's always positive. (and there is a big difference between these two values) Can you help me rectify the issue, I think it might be something wrong when we load the UAE weather data? Hope to hear from you soon. Note: I have also posted in this SAM platform and also provided you both SAM files in my second reply.

Under Battery Sizing, are the inputs for desired bank capacity and desired bank power values per day, month or annum?. Secondly, what does the mean DC and AC, is it the indication of which side is the battery connected? Your SAM webinars and presenters are not explaining these.
