I see Marty as closer to a parallel of Saul Goodman than Walter White. But where Saul uses charm Marty uses Logic. I cant help but compare the scene of him conniving Del to let him launder in the Ozark while literally under the gun to the scene of when Walt and Jesse had Saul at gun point or the scene of him negotiating to get Del to work with the Snells compared to Saul negotiating with Tuco to spare the lives of the skateboarder. Then contrasting the approach to how Marty handled the situation vs Saul.

I think they would get along quite well because their specialty does not clash and infact complement each-other. I think Marty would be like Saul Goodman to Walter White and I think both Walter (and Mike) would respect him more than they do Saul. However if Wendy forced her way in like she did in ozaark there would be problems between Walt and Marty.

He's a *heroe* to me cos it's the SYSTEM that makes these kinds of scenario inevitable. If we had a sane system there never would have been the INSANE "Drug War" that has orders of magnitude more damage than it prevented. Yes - drug addicts are a huge problem - and 'Murikkka sold their soul in the worst way to address it possible.

Marty was a perfect character surrounded by so many, such deeply flawed people, that the audience doesn't even _notice_ he's perfect. MASSIVE SPOILER (that's paradoxically spoiler-free.) I joked to my girlfriend when we watched the very first episode, "what if he's only doing this because he loves math?" It absolutely _ruined_ the show for me. For the rest of the series, it felt like I was in on a secret I wasn't supposed to know. Marty does absolutely EVERYTHING right, to the extent that if he accidentally costs someone money, he reimburses them with interest - not out of survival instinct, but because he loves doing the math. He loves when the math gets more complicated, and he always NAILS IT. Whenever someone steals from him, when Wendy buys a new business he shouldn't be able to handle, when the Cartel makes an unreasonable demand... Marty is initially frustrated by the introduction of a previously unknown variable, then _solves the equation anyway._ He never loses his temper because, for God's sake, he just _loves math._

Dude I thought this exact same thing. He has no ego about anything at all, he just genuinely loves doing the work. Wendy on the other hand is all ego and just wants to dominate the world and win at any cost.

Living in Mexico I've been informed pretty well about how cartels work like most other Mexicans have and I gotta say it took Marty waaaay too long to exercise the power he had: the vast majority of all income for all cartels comes from the United States (like 90% of all of their income, easily) so whoever is the top earner and launderer there is the de facto second in command and in the show Marty earned like 95% of what the cartels earned so he was in fact the second most powerful (arguably the most powerful, and especially because he orchestrated the downfall of their main rival cartel which means he's an admired leader, strategic genius and the member of the sole remaining cartel) but we rarely saw him exercise said power which was disappointing to me (except when he told the boss of the Kansas City Mafia that "you get anywhere near me again and next time you see your son he's gonna be hanging from a bridge in Juarez" 😂 or when he took over the cartel and had some Mexican lieutenant tortured and killed which wasn't a pity for the guy was probably a murderous scumbag). In fact, Wendy exercised the power more often, like when he had Cade Langmore offed or her own brother offed haha 😂

I don't really think that he is a narcissist. I actually do more think that he's a hurt borderline who is traumatised and has learned that manipulating people is a easier way to get what he needed/wanted. Sadly, men who are borderline often are misunderstood by society. He surely hadn't the purest heart..but he absolutely wasn't a sociopath. Have you ever searched up the criteria for such a diagnosis? But in general there is just so much more about his personality and intellect, addiction and trauma you could have analysed but you mostly just talked about him being a narcisstic dude

You are correct he is not controlling enough, constantly wanting to be parented & manipulating everyone to make sure that someone else is always taking care of him, the lies, the delusional narratives, the lack of empathy for others. It’s very similar to narcissism but a little more infantile. I always thought my mom was a narcissist until I did research on Franks disorder and now it all makes sense. The only symptom lacking between Frank and my mom is an obvious fear of abandonment, however they do push people away with their false accusations.

Why not antisocial personality disorder?
@themfnjessiah
@themfnjessiah Жыл бұрын
I'd argue Frank has Borderline personality Disorder with some narcissistic traits or fleas. He definitely drinks and abuses substances partially to disassociate. In a world where we are all chasing the demons of our childhood Frank is constantly running from the expectation of others that resemble his childhood (being a constant disappointing bed wetter of a son to a aspd mother) Frank may disguise his intent but he disappears mostly when his desires of unconditional love are met with the disgust his mother projected onto him. I'd say this made him a self fulfilling prophecy and helped his antisocial genes flourish... he only really shows his emotions when those he loves leave... Monica Bianca .. I'm surprised Fiona didn't get some reaction but I assume he held it in and felt hee leaving was no different than his drunk vacation to Mexico. I do think his wmotions showed more for Fiona in his post surgery gaze for the little girl who passed in the bed next door. As he mistook her for Fiona... you can see him internalizing how "you could have froze to death?! I'm gonna try to be a better father! Want me to take you to Claire's tomorrow and get your ears puerced?" Borderlines are deeply afraid of abandonment but they tend to act out in ways that leave them abandoned. They act out against their interests and it's a self destructive thing the splitting behavior is a dead giveaway as he can go from idolization to demonization in one conversation with those he's close to. If you can't forgive me for my neglectful drug adled self serving behavior then you're not my prodigy your just another disinheretent ruined by the woman who left me and ruined my life. I'd argue borderline at the core but substance abuse disorder maybe Covert narcissistic personality disorder
