I know that realistically, they could've survived this Incident (I mean clowpiece's torch pretty much the same thing), the story being written for horror was quite effective since these characters that we knew and loved were getting rolled over by an overpowered version of local 58's moon, seeing characters that we usually attribute for being overpowered as hell get jumped by an unexpected terror was pretty unsettling. I might have the same reaction if it this happened to Goku too (and seeing the ending, it seemed like the moon also got him by surprise...) , I like the animation as its own standalone horror story.
