I'm going the other way. I rebuilt a 347 that was in my drag car. I currently have it in my street car with 410s. Car runs 10.80s on the stick. I'm looking to put 355s in because of rpm, noise and fuel consumption. I want to cruise past more gas stations lol. I have some videos of my mustangson my page. Great refresher video. Thanks

What’s the point of the fuse and where does it go in the wiring? How often will it blow? I’m worried the initial surge of amps when the fan comes on will keep blowing it.
@tecmotiondyno
@tecmotiondyno 7 күн бұрын
Use a fuse that can handle the continuous draw of the fan. It can be anywhere in a relatively short power circuit like this but ideally it will be fairly close to the battery or power lug. The fuse won’t normally blow as a result of the startup amperage.

I'mmmmmm gonna take a guess and sayyyy... HEADACHE! Unless you're the Smithsonian or Jay Leno, don't bother. This era of auto-manufacturing was a mess, especially for domestics; it was all off-the-shelf innovation with a HUGE helping of marketing which resulted in owning something which was nothing like that glossy ad in the National Geographic. Most parts for these cars are god-awful rare, mainly because for nearly 20 years as metal-prices went up the scrap was worth more than the car, even if it was in decent condition. It's actually easier to find parts and machining for vehicles mid-60s and older, basically because many of those cars didn't start to dry-rot as soon as you drove them of the lot, and they weren't a cobbled-together piece of modernity. But hey, passion and common-sense are seldom bosum buddies; I work on old Atari 5200s and fix them up... more 80s crap. So, I dig it.

Hi @tecmotiondyno. I plan on dropping the transmission, so I will only be lifting the engine with the bell housing attached. At what points do you have the load leveler attached to the engine?
@tecmotiondyno
@tecmotiondyno 17 күн бұрын
You can attach it the same way I did here. If you don't want to pull the upper intake and you still have the factory lift points, you can use those, but the engine will twist as you adjust the load leveler. An example of installing an engine/transmission assembly with the factory lift points is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2naZoqlhtiAbsUsi=-VmhOvYcDsHPPwq5

@@tecmotiondyno Okay. She is stocked from the factory, so I will use the factory lift points. Are those stock headers on your engine? If so, I should be able to deinstall and install my engine like you did, right? Maybe a little easier since only the bell housing will be attached?
@tecmotiondyno
@tecmotiondyno 17 күн бұрын
@@Mustang8846 yeah, I think both these videos depict stock header cars. You won’t have to remove the stock headers to get it in or out, but if you switch to aftermarket headers you will start to get into special procedures around the headers.

I use this car as my summer daily. This business of hauling a laser printer down to the shop for an emergency Saturday replacement is a little tongue in cheek, but it takes the sting out of having to spend my Saturday on a shop maintenance exercise because at least I got a nice Corvette ride. If you ask me, the real crime with these cars is having one and NOT driving it.

You really should use a flexible skim coat like the Fusor 114. Other types of products may crack or delaminate. I am sure there are competitors to the Fusor product, but what you are looking for is a skim coat designed for flexible plastic surfaces like bumper covers. Having said this, I am not a journeyman body man, but I consulted one in conjunction with this repair and it did turn out well.

Hey great video! But I’m having trouble getting the harmonic balancer back on. If I try to put the crank bolt back in and tighten it it doesn’t push in the balancer. Am I missing something?
@tecmotiondyno
@tecmotiondyno 19 күн бұрын
I hope you didn’t strip the crank threads. You should use a longer bolt to get decent engagement on the crank threads like I did or better yet a balancer installer if you could find one that works with the 5.0 setup. If you have an automatic you should still be able to get it started but at some point you will just start turning the whole crankshaft so you may have to brace it with something. If I recall when I did this automatic I used a steel bar between a flat spot on the edge of the balancer and the shop floor with a microfiber in between to avoid marring the balancer.

Critique. No need to use RTV on gaskets at the ports, the gasket seals the 2 surfaces. Better deal is to smear a light coat of grease or Vaseline on the gaskets, this will ensure the gaskets will not stick to the surface when manifold is removed. Good advice on the studs for the ends of the manifold, Ford used them for many years, a light coating of anti seize on them will inhibit corrosion. Nothing worse than unbolting a SBF intake & snapping the studs/bolts in the head! Good idea to re-torque the manifold bolts after a few heat cycles. Your water pump housing gasket needed a trim job, looks shabby with the gasket out in the open.
@tecmotiondyno
@tecmotiondyno Ай бұрын
I would definitely not use and did not use RTV on the gasket surfaces. I used Permatex High Tack which is a specialized adhesive used to hold the gasket in place and promote sealing on the side of the gasket without a print-o-seal surface. This is essentially the same product as gasgacinch which is what Ford recommends for this job. Applying an oil or grease product to the gasket can damage its integrity and is not a good idea. As for retorquing the manifold bolts, that isn’t possible with an EFI manifold unless you remove the upper and I have never seen it be necessary if you follow the procedure that I outline here.
