Sir, I remember as a Bengali Hindu all our beddings are still made with Shimul Tulo or the silk cotton that you were speaking, Even far in Northern India, Muslims weavers and bedding makers ascertain that only bengalis demand Shimul cotton from them, which they have to bring upon order basis! It helps in keeping pillows and Kantha in a good condition and is different from ordinary cotton!
@kaafirnama13 сағат бұрын
True Piyush! The mulmul was called as kalinga cotton around 500-300bc as per records, as Gangetic Muslin when romans picked it up during 26bc-100ad as per Roman records and more recently as dhakha mulmul. My sense is it was probably the odissa-Bengal region (lower range of Ganges and thereabouts) where it originated. Bengal muslin too was famous over the last 2000 years. Maybe it was a slightly lower grade of the same cloth since Dhaka muslin had many grades. There are Tamil sangam poets who have written poetry about how Tamil ports used to wait anxiously for ships coming from Bengal/kalinga carrying India’s finest cotton from these two regions.so why would modern day Bengalis not ask for it with 2500 years of use!!😀

It is said to kill the competition and destroy Muslin, the British rulers cut the thumbs of the Muslin weavers
@kaafirnama14 сағат бұрын
Hi Saurav, I put up the vlog to dispel the Muslim weaver myth floated with the story that you mentioned. (Nothing against Muslim weavers per se.) I have heard and read the story since my childhood though it has no basis in history. The story claims that the weavers thumbs were cut off immediately after the 1857 uprising. But dhakha muslin continued to be exported as usual to Britain till at least the 1870s. After which the European textile industry pushed British govt to kill the fabric through tariffs and similar means. More on that some other day. The Dhakha Muslim was exhibited in the two great exhibitions conducted in Britain in 1851 and 1862 (the first ever global exhibitions. Read about them in Wikipedia or British official websites on the two events.) The Dhakha Muslin was exhibited in both. The details I quote are based on British research as also independent research of those times. These details were put up with the diagrams I have put in the vlog as explanatory placards during the exhibition. If you are interested in the subject, please do read the two sources I have listed on the subject. They have explained the fabric more elaborately than what I have done in a short video. As also how the European textile industry was distraught at the prospect of competing with dhakha muslin.

Some Parsis indeed did work closely with the British on opium trade. But not all did. And no Hindu or Jain entrepreneur did. Read detailed research by global and Indian researchers on the subject from the enclosed link on why Hindus and Jains succeeded vs Muslims. And why Muslims did not do well beyond trading enterprises anywhere in the Middle East too. Also what about 1500-1800 when Hindus and Jains dominated business. There were no British then. You will shortly get their stories too on this channel. Also why Khojas, Bohras and Memons continued to dominate business vs other Muslims despite being 0.4 percent of Muslim population. Why other Muslims failed? Sorry this channel is for serious conversation on such topics and not ignorant face buried in the sand type people who make sweeping generalisations.

Correct! Actually even going up to Peshawar. part of Muslim families stayed behind in UP and the other part migrated to Pakistan, having the best of both worlds. But to be fair, many ordinary Muslims who migrated lost their belongings in India.....but they were given the property of Hindus who had left under the Enemy Property Act. India too had the same act but Gandhi resisted/protested when the properties of Muslims who left India was being handed over to Hindu refugees.

Thanks for info Sir interesting... It should also be noted that Balochistan and NWFP were not given the status of the governor's province until very late.. And they had tribal society... Ralph Griffith was first governor of NWFP in 1932 and even Legislative Council was established there very late and so were political parties.. It also hindered economic development. Chelmsford reforms of 1919 were neglected in these provinces.

Sir Aga Khan had even proposed to make Arabic as state language of Pakistan.. Jinnah at least should be admired for choosing Indian language like Urdu as state language. Otherwise Pakistan may have been a member of Arab League by now.

Correction - Moroccans are largely Arabs (and some Berbers). Somalis speak Somali… very few Somalis speak Arabic. Even today- it was less 50 years back. Arab league was a Muslim grouping among others that came up post 1945… and had little to no political significance or solidarity. All Arab league nations including the biggest Arab country - Egypt - have been thrown out of the league from time to time. The Saudi run OIC was relatively powerful since it was backed by Saudi oil revenues..Pakistan could not do much with OIC.. what would they have done with Arab league?

Although it's true Mughals didn't focused that much on navy like Europeans but that's also fact that Portuguese were not able to colonize India due to Mughals like they colonized Brazil... Portuguese also had missionary zeal to convert others to Christianity unlike British.
@kaafirnama3 ай бұрын
You are correct on the Portuguese conversion part… it was brutal..I have closely studied Goan history (descend from that state)…only small point I want to add is Mughals did no such thing… they never fought against any colonial power. Portuguese and French lost to the British on the Indian Ocean…. A control that the Anglo Saxons continue to maintain with the US navy. The handover officially happened around 1950 when the British went bankrupt post the Second World War..

All states in the past were military controlled too… Pakistan is run by an elite that comprises the Army at the helm. And the army privately owns enterprises like the Mughals did despite living off the state treasury like the Mughals did. Plus all other theories of the decline of the Mughals (have done a separate episode) corresponds to the scenario in Pakistan
