Bi-amping the XLS 215'S you cannot run over 60 watts to the mids and tweeters NO ? I haven't done that to mine yet I'm still recouping from getting my Sansui G9000 rebuilt it cost a few hundred more than I expected. I have the XLS 202s running my Cerwins for now but when I can I'm going with the 2500s and using the 202s for the mid, high section but I'll be careful as to not blow them from over driving.

Ya something isn’t right here with this setup. Those 4 15s should have hard hitting, crisp, powerful bass without having to turn the receiver up that high. Maybe you need a pre amp, but I’m thinking that receiver is trash or something else is going on

I got that same amp and speakers. The amp has a input sensitivity switch. .775v and 1.4v. What setting are you using?

Hi, just ordered a pair of the CV and not sure how to power them. Do you bi-amp or keep jumper strap in place and connect power amp? I assume the HF drivers are unable to handle same level as the LF how do you protect them? Thanks

How many decimals can it hit ? You should try tri-amping your system with a 3-way electronic active cross-over and see how better and louder it will get specially with those amplifiers your running I promise you that

All amps are not alike. Really good amps have really good power supplies. There are 150 watt per channel amps that will kick the crap out of those xls-215s, but they are not cheap. I own two new DriveCore II Crown amps. When using their RCA jacks, you do not get full power.

Edit..... if it's a switchable amp, make sure they're on the correct setting!! Pretty impressive that they handle it, I had this issue when I was using them crowns in a home use setting aswell. Only because you need the right voltage going into the crowns inputs. Home use receivers output is only .775. that's why you're needing these extensive wattage amps. If you would have gone with a drive core 2 crown, they have a input switch that easily connects home audio with professional. I've blown a pair of clsc215, same specs as the xls with a 1000 watt drive core 2 xls amp. Look up the drivecore2 amplifiers for more of an understanding of what im saying.

I have a Crown XLS 2502 driving a set of Skar DDX15-D2 sub woofers. That's a 774 watt per channel amp, with each channel driving a 1000 watt speaker. Even though the XLS series of Crown pro amps have RCAs in, using them only gives about 60% of the rated power. The sensitivity adjustment does help, but if one needs to run the Crown at full power from RCA cables as I did, I had to use an ART Cleanbox Pro. The Art Cleanbox Pro is a converter that makes home sound equipment’s connections compatible with pro-equipment. I am also using a Crown XLS 1002 as a mono block to drive another 500-watt sub. But in this case, the cleanbox is not needed, as 60% of 1100 watts should be plenty enough power. In reality, this 1100-watt amp (using an RCA connection and set on high sensitivity) runs at 90% to drive a 500 watt speaker. The cleanbox is also not needed for any of these XLS amps to drive 98% of all the theater speakers out there. Your speakers are one of the ones that need the cleanbox. The Art Cleanbox significantly improved the output of the Crown XLS 2502. But for it to work properly, you have to run RCA cables from the theater amp’s front channel pre-outs to the cleanbox, and XLR cables from the cleanbox to the pro amp. The bottom gain control works for this section of the cleanbox. The top gain control is use for the other section when you use the box for a XLR to RCA conversion.

I have cerwin vega too wondering what you have for a pre amp, curious if you maybe have a issue or not, I notice even if I use AirPlay vs Bluetooth the sound loudness changes

All you guys are blowing these up because you're using shitty and cheap class D power. But an old NAD or Carver amp and you'll stop destroying these speakers. And turn it down too. I'm sure your audio sounds stressed.

Power consumption of the XLi3500 is only 700w, i used to sell these Cerwin Vegas, and I drove them off a pair of Cambridge Audio 751R AV receivers rated at 200w RMS per channel in stero mode, but each one had a monstrous 1.6KW transformer (Yes, each one was powered off a seperate power circuit). They drove the balls off those speakers. crowns are great for easy to drive, highly sensitive PA speakers, but these Cerwins need a proper amplifier my dude. Forget about the watts, it's all about grunt, and you cant get that sort of grunt without a big power supply. Simple physics, you cant get more out than you put in - See "Law of conservation of energy"

They're super underrated. I have 750w RMS going to each of mine and it isn't anywhere near enough.

Signal output voltage on your pre amp is as important as your amps output power, if you don't have enough voltage output your amp won't get the output it's rated at and you end up turning it up to high and clipping trying to get that umph out of it. So if your using an avr to power your amp it's not enough signal strength to get the most out of your amp.

I own a pair, they are not bad sounding speakers at all ! If you are using a decent pre amp, good power amplifier, potential DAC, which I do use, I'll admit I can get these speakers to absolutely sing !! I mean clarity, bass, mid excellence. I must add they are very much so content selective! Meaning, they like good studio recorded music, if the recording is crap? They will pick out the flaws. That indeed is a good thing . They sound great, just need to know how to play them !

dam you got a lot of 15s no cap i only have one 6400watts dual 18 inch pa subwoofer for now but i am thinking of getting two 15inch tbh

I see that you still haven’t fully pumped up your speakers, you’ve already turned up the preamp and the bass all the way, and the volume to maximum, but the speakers still don’t play their maximum. With a competent approach, neither the timbre will be needed nor will it be necessary to turn it all the way. These speakers are tight and they need a large margin of gain, so until there is 5 times more than what is written for them and the signal for the amplifier is sufficient, there will be no sense. It’s not normal that you have to turn everything all the way, this indicates that the gain is clearly not enough...
