I have had a set of XLS 215’s for 2 1/2 years my integrated amp was set on 6 ohms, kept clipping and sounding like shit, slide switch to 4 ohms completely rocking now incredible, I been stressing for a couple years, now THEY COMPLETELY ROCK BEST SPEAKERS EVER SO GLAD I BOUGHT THEM! 🎸

I have a Crown XLS 2502 driving a set of Skar DDX15-D2 sub woofers. That's a 774 watt per channel amp, with each channel driving a 1000 watt speaker. Even though the XLS series of Crown pro amps have RCAs in, using them only gives about 60% of the rated power. The sensitivity adjustment does help, but if one needs to run the Crown at full power from RCA cables as I did, I had to use an ART Cleanbox Pro. The Art Cleanbox Pro is a converter that makes home sound equipment’s connections compatible with pro-equipment. I am also using a Crown XLS 1002 as a mono block to drive another 500-watt sub. But in this case, the cleanbox is not needed, as 60% of 1100 watts should be plenty enough power. In reality, this 1100-watt amp (using an RCA connection and set on high sensitivity) runs at 90% to drive a 500 watt speaker. The cleanbox is also not needed for any of these XLS amps to drive 98% of all the theater speakers out there. Your speakers are one of the ones that need the cleanbox. The Art Cleanbox significantly improved the output of the Crown XLS 2502. But for it to work properly, you have to run RCA cables from the theater amp’s front channel pre-outs to the cleanbox, and XLR cables from the cleanbox to the pro amp. The bottom gain control works for this section of the cleanbox. The top gain control is use for the other section when you use the box for a XLR to RCA conversion.

I own a pair of these and paired them to two NAD cva 375be amps and a powered cerwin vega cva 115 subwoofer. I have used the system daily for three years and every works fine.

I think you would be really happy with a Emotivs XPA3 amp and XDA3 DAC pre amp, not as much power as you have but it should be more dynamic and better bass. Just something to look at if you get the itch lol! They now have a Canadian warehouse with free shipping 👍🏻

All amps are not alike. Really good amps have really good power supplies. There are 150 watt per channel amps that will kick the crap out of those xls-215s, but they are not cheap. I own two new DriveCore II Crown amps. When using their RCA jacks, you do not get full power.

I’ve owned a pair of these for a little over 3 years now and they have since then burned in so to speak rather nicely I might say I too thought that they were somewhat lacking in the bass department but I quickly remedied that problem with a JBL powered 18 inch subwoofer and boy howdy let me say that I now have enough bass for me as well as all of my neighbors around me! The Vega’s are powered by an Emotiva XPA gen 2 amp which is fed by an Emotiva PT 100 preamp signal Everything gets their juice from the wall outlet through a Panamax PM 5400 power conditioner and I couldn’t be happier with the performance that these things deliver Never ever once had a clipping issue or never had to replace a single fuse in them I highly don’t recommend ever putting a heavier fuse in them Last thing you want to do is damage the built in onboard crossover or even worse like cooking a voice coil or talking to the fire department about what happened lol

I had a pair of jbl cf-150 years ago which I powered with a 200wpc H&h amp.. With a single 15 it would blow away these cerwin vega's.. The base was absolutely more than 1 would need and all my neighbours could hear all the way down the street.. I can understand you adding a jbl sub and made a world of difference but with 4 15's we shouldn't need to add a sub but I've been looking to add maybe a 21" powered sub because of the lack of heart stoping base I'm looking for.

@@sledstr My philosophy has always been that the less that the speaker needs to actually work than the more efficient it becomes overall Same goes with any amplifier out there as well I'm guessing Not really sure The amp I'm running my Vega's with currently has little to no distortion if any at all for that matter and now since adding the JBL it doesn't have to worry about pushing the 4 15's any longer making it more full sounding all the way across the board to me Don't get me wrong they're still moving quite a bit of air like before the sub was added but now all of the really low frequencies are being dealt out by the JBL and everything ties together very nicely sound wise I just constantly found myself saying over and over again that these things should be hitting a little harder than they actually are and thought to myself what the hell? I almost thought it was the amp at first but that just wasn't the case They're definitely not the Vega's from back in the day by any means but weighing in at around 120 lbs. each they are pretty decent sounding for the hard earned money I spent and truly have that overall WOW! factor for sure They do consume quite a bit of real estate in my living room but that's ok I'll manage I've heard from others out there in the forums that the internal crossovers in these things are pretty much trash and I probably will need to upgrade those at a later time when I get around that bend A lot of other things come into play in the whole equation as well like having a properly shielded and balanced signal path between the different components Some might say that high end cables are just a bunch of snake oil and are totally unnecessary but I've been on both sides of that fence for quite some time and have come to the long drawn out conclusion that when it comes to me personally I'm positive my rig sounds so much more alive and brighter now than it ever did before since adding the better built high end audio cables and a truly dedicated power conditioner unit to it that I've made the decision that I'm not ever turning back It's totally a night and day difference for me for sure I mainly spin a lot of vinyl on my setup and it's now completely dead quiet between the tracks just like it's supposed to be even when it's really cranked up Not any hum nor hiss whatsoever Just the way I like it Go ahead and pull the trigger on the external sub! Trust me when I say that you won't be disappointed Can't say the same for your neighbors though Oh well Screw them! Always remember this They're just jealous....lol

@@getchapull7077 I ordered a sub cpl hrs ago lmao. I'm waiting for some new tweeters I ordered as I blew one of them. The guy I was speaking to which is the Canadian cerwin vega distributer "The Speaker Shop" out of Toronto suggested a bigger tweeter along with some resisters which will make them bullet proof and also allow a little more power out of the speakers as the woofers can handle way more than cv claims. I've read a few people saying after they blew their tweeters they were able to get way more volume before clipping out. I'll agree these are not anywhere near the old school cerwin.. Maybe crossovers is the answer?? They just aren't very efficient and I keep throwing more power at them to get that perfect thump but not gaining anything.. Maybe this new sub will do the trick but I'm quite disappointed that I should have to add a sub.. I kind of feel like it's that used car you keep throwing money at.

@getchapull7077 Жыл бұрын
@@sledstr The culprit could very well be the crossover has limitations for the low end Never gave it much thought but it does make sense Are you running them in a bi-amp configuration or using the little brass straps on the input terminals of the speakers?

@@getchapull7077 I was gonna try byamping and just use my receiver to power the highs and power amp on lows but I just don't think anything is gonna do it and am now thinking like you it's the crossovers maybe cutting the power to them.. Don't know enough about that to know for sure but I'll tell you that power amp is pushing 2800wpc bridged and it can take it and pounds way better than 500wpc..just got an issue with only rca out of receiver and only xlr ins on the amp so I'm getting this buzz.. Tried an xlr converter and didn't help..my crown has rca and xlr inputs.. Not sure if I can rca in the crown and xlr out to the other amp from the crowm to solve that issue.. Fan is way too loud to use in my home theater anyway but I may try it when I get that sub.

I’ve talked to Cerwin also , same subject too , and these are 250 rms and 500 peak. These are sensitive speakers and don’t require a lot of power. But you need real power , not these amplifiers like your using. I have Adcom 555 and my walls vibrate. Crystal clear too. You need real old fashioned power. Today’s amps just suck.

I have an old real 250 watt amp and although ponds better than the crown at 3/4 throttle it gives out where the crown keeps going. Those numbers have to be wrong. I had the somewhat similar looking 400w v252 which are 2 way and the peak on them is 1400w. I find it impossible to believe they would produce a more expensive similar speaker that doesn't come close to their other version. Honestly was more impressed with the v252 than the xls. I'll make an othe video soon as I've added the old school amp along with a set of old jbl speakers and the sound is way better now as the jbl adds some highs that were missing with the CV's. Your right in that the older amps kick alot harder but these speakers are for sure peaking at more than 500. The guy are cerwin knows nothing about the speakers other than the paper that says they are 500w rms..it doesn't say anymore that that and he knows nothing more than that. The slightly smaller v252 on the other hand although being a 4ohm speaker states 400w rms, 700w input power and 1400w peak power. If their saying its 500 peak that is completely wrong and would quite the ripoff. In any case following their own formula if he's saying 250 rms it would be 500 running and a peak of 1000. The Crown xli 2500 500w amp (700w4ohm) ran the 252 not too bad but could of used a little more was just uselles on the xls. Now the xli3500 1000w pounds the xls way harder but still comes just a tad shy. I'm able to run it at max volume with bass on +2 with no clip. The old school amp volume up to 80ish% and she starts clipping. I know old school vs new stuff numbers are way off but but if 500 was peak I would of blown these long ago.

And don't talk to the guys at cerwin vega. They guys working there now have absolutely no idea what they are doing. They are hard to place right in the room to where they pound, but when you find the right room and placement in that room they can absolutely take your breath away. But to find that room is hard.

I too have the xli 2500, the reason you are clipping is because you have the gain turned up all the way there should never be any reason to turn it up that far u will get noise and will clip very easily the woofers can handle it but the tweeters will clip id say the tweeters can only handle about 250w max i bi amped my speakers the xli 2500 gain a little under half and a xli 1500 for the highs around a 1/4 gain i also had to run a ground from the chassis of the amp to my reciever because i did have an rca ground loop issue and grounding the reciever fixed it you are blowing fuses and clipping because the gain is not adjusted propperly it is not a volume knob turning the gain up all the way will not make it louder lower the gain and turn the reciever up louder also after researching the previous gen 215 aka cls215 and clsc 215 if you want deeper bass maybe lengthen the ports and cut out the stupid wall that cerwin vega put between the woofers i myself am considering doing this as the cls and clsc are very similar to the xls but had much deeper bass tuning the box to go lower in theory should fix this as the xls is tuned to about 36-40hz (rated 36hz -3db)and the cls and clsc are tuned to about 30 (rated to be around 24hz)

How did you ground your receiver? I'm getting a buz from the hdmi input.. If I unplug the hdmi the buzz goes away.. I've upgraded to the xli 3500 I can hit 95% volume no clipping.. I can hit about 91% with bass at 7 before she barely clips. I'm sure with bass at midway I can probably turn it to max but it's way too loud haven't tried yet lol.

@@sledstr so basically i ran a wire from a screw on the chassis of the amp (one of the screws on the side as i didnt want to ground directly to something within the amp) to a chassis screw on the reciever an rca ground loop basically means the reciever is grounding to the amp through the rca cable and most recievers do not have a ground wire so sometimes you will get noise in the rca signal because both sources are not grounded the same so basically a good workaround would be to equalize the ground on both sources by connecting them to each other so the rca cable is not carrying the entire load and with the xli3500 there should be more than enough wattage to keep the gain down low even with the rca ground loop 90% fixed i can still hear a hum through the tweeters if i turn the gain up high, the higher the gain the more noise u will have id recommend at the most to put the gain around half or less i have the xli2500 powering only my woofers and the gain is set just above a 1/4 of the way i can turn it up all the way id say about 80%-85% volume at max bass or on pure direct is all ill give it i dont feel comfortable with the woofers moving any further as i really dont want them to bottom out my db meter says i get it up to 120db i can still turn it up louder my reciever goes from -80db to +18db. 0 is about the highest i typically turn it up at +5 i can tell the woofers are at max excursion woofers sound like they are almost bottoming out i try to be careful as im terrified if i push them too hard they will just POP if i turn the bass down i can easily push it to over 120db

I also have an rca amplifier to take the front channel preouts and turn it into 4 pre outs each are amplified and have a knob for each channel adding this made my system even louder my front ch pre out is connected to the xli2500 xli1500 and my 2 xls15s subwoofers so the subs also act as a left and right speaker

It is a ROLLS DA134 distribution amplifier it raises the rca voltage and allows you to get more out of your pa amp as a reciever is a consumer product and obviously a pa amp is professional audio I should also mention at high volume the noise (ground loop) can cause premature clipping
