Thanks for the video. A smart man learns from his own mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. One other caution, salt water is corrosive. Make sure you have a well seasoned Dutch oven. And apply a good coating of oil and heat afterwards.

It's just physics and chemistry. Salt applied to ice is an endothermic reaction which produces temperatures below freezing. It's the way old fashioned ice cream makers worked. I grew up eating the stuff. A problem with you doing this in a dutch oven is, you need to pour out the salt water or otherwise remove the salt water, and add more ice and salt. The ice cream machine had a vent tube that let the salt water flow out. MacGyver Mode activated. Use a siphon to remove the salt water, if you don't want to just carefully pour it out.

@@T260. It will work if you do what I tell you. It's just inefficient. Like I said it's just physics and chemistry. If you expose the custard to subzero temperatures long enough it will inevitably congeal. I occasionally have used this method to chill cokes and beers quickly.

@@T260. A hand cranked version of the electric ice cream maker I described from my yoot will be adequate to make ice cream in the field. That's how it was done before an electric motor was added. But like I said, what you were doing would eventually work if you do it like I told you above, and below. At least I think the other comment will be below this.

Dude, I'm a bit lost on why you would use a Dutch oven or any metal vessel as your freezer. Metal...especially any sort of heavy cast metal is an extremely effective heat conductor/absorber. If you want to MELT ice or defrost frozen food, there are few ways that are better than to lay it in a Dutch oven or cast iron skillet. Consider changing to a small plastic paint bucket and tape some foam rubber around it. I have a hunch your result will be better.

@shyamdevadas6099 This one is kind of urban legend in the dutch oven community. A lot of people claim they have made ice cream this way. So I wanted to give it a shot. There are definitely a lot better ways of making ice cream when camping.

That's why I said it's inefficient, but not impossible. It will just take more ice and salt than say a wooden bucket would.

Dude thank you 🙏🏻 I have a Coleman 440 stove and I was confused on how to release the pressure, honestly I was terrified pressurized gas would come shooting out and set everyone on fire or something. On a side note I read on a website about older Coleman products that specific development went into the depressurizing technology inside the fuel cap… anything before the mid 60’s actually can shoot a pressurized flaming fuel jet if the cap isn’t replaced.

When I was in the Boy Scouts in the 60’s, we bought white gas at the local Phillips 66 station for about 25 cents a gallon. Try to find bulk white gas now. Darn near impossible. Even the Walmart camp fuel is $15.00 a gallon.

@T260. 2 ай бұрын
@lorinkramer5805 A lot of times what I use is ethanol free gasoline. It is a little bit harder on the generator so I have to replace the cardboard sleeve every two years on the generator. But I understand that most gas stations do not sell ethanol free gasoline. Where I live on the coast. It's quite common it's used for boats. It will normally run you about a dollar more than your normal gasoline.

hold it differently. put a finger/thumb over the hole to contain the fuel and stop it igniting. light it in your hand, like you would a match on a striker, instead of going towards a surface like you would with a ferrous rod and tinder. however, they arent great things for everyday use. its basically a zippo thats harder to use. the benefit is long term storage of viable fuel for striking a fire in an emergency.
