It’s definitely poison . It’s a pit viper in a different place.

This is so sad to see these animals who went extinct because of us humans. And to anyone who's saying "oh there just animals and they don't matter." Well they do because if even just one animals or plant goes extinct then the ecosystem they were apart of could descend into the chaos and dissapear. If you don't belive me then take the dinosaurs for example, when the meteor hit it created a lot of ash and dirt which blocked out sunlight and that killed a bunch of plants. So with no plants herbovois(things tht eat plants)had nothing to eat and died. Then with the herbivores gone the carnivores(things that eat meat)had nothing to eat so they eventually died out too

This may sound foolish of me to say as it is unlikely but I want to believe that the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō is still out there. Only more elusive than ever. The island isn’t big, and I know Hawaii has done effort and effort to locate this bird and further protect its remaining endemic species. But for whatever reason I really can’t seem to accept its extinction just yet. Also I feel like I’ve seen the ivory billed woodpecker before here in SC. I can’t remember when in childhood I saw it but it’s distinct from other woodpeckers - enough so to leave a lasting image in my head many years later.

I notice a pattern where it is always the colonizers and white people who being the major cause of some animal species extintion. I'm not being racist at all but back in the day these white colonizers thinks they're superior in all things but apparently have a ostrich size brains when it comes to other life.

I once found a spider about the size of a wolf spider that had identical body structure to a sun spider. However, it was a vibrant red with a green abdomen, it was cool. Ive never been able to find a subspecies of sunspider that resembles it. My grandpa also killed it immediately upon seeing it.

I wonder if they were just color variants of known species, not even subspecies. Such as the ones that seem the same but with color extended. Like red extended to the tail instead of blue. Or a smaller patch of a color. Easy to happen in a small population.

That is more about Dodos than I have seen anywhere else. I think when pigs and rats are introduced to an island the wildlife there is always doomed. It's sad.

That last pupfish looks like it had tuberculosis, though people often call it Wasting Disease in aquarium fish. Probably cross-contaminated from aquarium equipment or fish from aquarium that had fish die from it before.

Very exciting news from Finland! One of our native fish that we thought went extinct back in 1960 was just rediscovered! The catfish, although never thought to be prominent species in our lakes, was rediscovered in this week in Kotka. Scientists think this might be one off thing, maybe it wondered over here from Karjala or from nearby fisheries, but this means the catfish can live in our lakes. I know this doesn't break records like the coelacanth, but I think it's neat to have some wildlife news from my country. Before you ask what happened to the catfish, it was transported to the local public aquariums, where it's hold for quarantine for few weeks until its gonna be publicly available to view. Said aquarium holds every native fish species to the Finnish waters. I know locally extinct species should be returned to the wild, but scientists don't know if there's local population of catfish in Finland, they decided it's better for it to teach people of its past and present than disappear into the murky waters of Finland, maybe not to be seen ever again.

I'm an Ecologist in Melbourne and do a lot of work monitoring and doing surveys for the Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon. Nobody has really heard of it here outside of some news articles so it is so wild to see someone from outside Australia, let alone Melbourne, talk about our little survivor. Great work bringing attention to it!

I remember being a kid and seeing a red frog and have never seen another like it. I live around the southern Dismal swamp area of North Carolina and it would be a perfect biome for sich an undiscovered creature. I remember the frog was only a little over an inch long , red and black around the eyes. I was gonna pick it up but, something told me don't, like instinct.

This gives me hope that a confirmed sighting of an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker (or possibly even an Imperial Woodpecker) will take place in the near future (possibly next year).
