Awesome scenario... just one tiny detail... Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO are literally right next to each other. Geographically, they're pretty much the same location. There would be no need to drop a nuclear bomb on each one :) But other than that, this was really scary and well written!

Montana and North Dakota have most of the US's nuclear silos. South Dakota used to have some but no longer does but I bet Vlad and Dmitry don't know that so Cutie Kristi land is also in trouble. Nebraska also has some US nuclear silos so they are also on the shortlist to be obliterated. Colorado has the under-mountain command center supposedly bomb proof so I would expect Russia to send their Tsar Bomba class nukes there, if it is a direct hit that is toast as well.

@@mharris5047 IIRC, Cheyenne Mountain can handle up to 30 megatons. If the Russians hit it with a Tsar Bomba size nuke, the whole country would be in deep trouble, even if it was the only one detonated. Remember, the Tsar Bomba was designed to yield 100 megatons; the Soviets knew they couldn't test it without radioactively trashing their own country, so they changed the design to halve the yield. And still to this day the southern part of Novaya Zemlaya archipelago is worryingly radioactive.

If you are directly hit, that is true. However, the million degree area (or even the 150 degree area) would only have a radius of a few miles, even a Tsar Bomba incineration area would be less than a fifty mile radius. Radiation sickness would kill hundreds of millions more than incineration and second/third degree burns. I don't believe that improvised shelters in basements would save anyone from a cruel death. God willing I won't be here when this all goes down.

In this scenario, since there’s no basement in my house, I don’t know of any fallout shelters in my neighborhood. The subways in my community are elevated. On top of that, there’s not 1 battery operated radio in my house. With 5-10 minutes until an inbound missile strike. I’d just go sit on my porch and watch the show. I’d sit there and stop worrying and love the thermal nuclear bomb.☮️

One thing to point out: Because of both the asteroids size and location of impact, this might not cause an extinction event, but would probably kill off most species. Humanity could probably survive if we had special shelters where the tsunami would not hit.
