Hey I have a quite important question about oil for lower legs. In service manual for Rfx38 m2 it say to put 15 ml of Renep CGLP 68 into Damper fork leg and 15 ml of 01309-01 - high performance suspension fluid in the spring fork leg. I've never had a fork that requires different fluids for each leg and they are quite expensive. Are you aware of any good quality equivalent? You mention in the video RSP 0w-30, will that be ok or any 0w-30 would be ok ? Or maybe I would be just fine with Rock Shox 0w30 oil that I have? That Renep one has 68cSt40 and the other one has 19cts40. I wonder how important are those numbers but certainly someone had a brainstorm when it comes to these oils.

@RBC_tech 9 күн бұрын
Hi Chory1827, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Your question is really good and not many understand this reason. Fox has the same requirements for their forks with a Grip damper. The reason is oil ingestion into the damper as follows. On the air cartridge side the scraper wiper prevents most oil from being ingested into the air chamber and a little of the CGLP68 wont make a huge difference. However on the damper side the oil in the damper is the 01309-01 and any CGLP68 oil that becomes ingested into the damper will affect the damping qualities of the fork because the CGLP68 is very thick and sticky compared to the 01309-01. For the RXF38 ,m2 i recommend using the correct fluid for the damper and air sides as per the owners manual. However if you are not able to get the 01309-01 fluid you can substitute this for a 5wt oil from FUSCH or r.s.p. Keep in mind that just doing lower leg services is not good for the fork as if you are not servicing the air cartridge or the damper cartridge then you are not elimination contaminated fluid from the lower legs that has been ingested into these cartridges.

You're doing amazing job with uploading diy on youtube! thank you! I have one question do you reccomend using lubricant to lefty after ride? for example something like finish line max suspension spray or brunox for the suspension? Or just clean the lefty after every ride and only perform servicing as recommended by the manufacturer and not spray the shock absorber after every ride?
@RBC_tech
@RBC_tech 9 күн бұрын
Hi Marcins8810, thanks for your message and support of our channel. The lefty, if serviced correctly, should always have oil on the seal because the fork is upside down. However in my experience once the fork is washed and the oil is removed from the scraper seal (this is the seal lip you can see outside the seal) and the stanction then you have some stiction when the fork is used again. To understand this visualize the seal cut in half, there is a scraper seal lip that you can see then under that is another set of lips facing inwards that hold the oil inside the fork. When the fork has been washed the oil on the stanction is removed and its not easy to re-lube the scraper seal. from the internal seals. If you have ever used the windscreen wipers in you car when there is no rain, the rubber pulls on the glass and you can see its gripping the glass. this is what happens to the scraper seal after washing. So yes I highly recommend using r.s.p hyper wiper to recondition the stanction and lip seal after washing. I am not a fan of spray lube so close to the disk brake pads so be careful if you use any oil under pressure. Compress the fork a few times after lubing the stanction by the seal and then wipe off the excess oil. check the linkkzbin.info/www/bejne/mGLdq3p7dq6nhqs

Hi Robert, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Just to confirm, is the damper leaking? if not then I would not recommend opening the damper to replace the skirt seal. All that's needed is a flush out the old oil and fresh oil added to keep the damper smooth and in good working order. Also if you have the 2.1 RC2 damper then you should not need the lockout spring so if you buy the kit, the spring will not be needed. Thanks Robbie

Hi Zane, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Yes you can just remove the damper without removing the lowers. Hey, thank you very much for this very helpful and detailed video!!! Please keep up the good work! I'm surprised how much dirt has accumulated under the membrane! I have a few questions about this: 1. how long has the fork not been serviced? 2. at what interval is this service planned? In the RS service manuals for my ZEB '22 I don't see anything about this! 3. or does this service possibly only apply to certain Charger 2.1 models (year of manufacture, fork model etc.)?
@RBC_tech
@RBC_tech 2 ай бұрын
Hi s.kolodzie6007, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Yes actually we were also very surprised at how much dirt and water can collect under the remote. To answer your questions, 1. since this is not a "serviceable part" we don't find any connection between the fork service and the dirt under this section other than riding in wet or dusty conditions. 2. Stick to the service recommendation from Rock Shock for your ZEB and make sure its done by a certified technician. 3. It seems that the XC charger damper with remote interface is most affected by the dirt getting in, not so much on the manual and so for never on the Charger for the ZEB so don't worry about this on your fork. Just ensure its cleaned with water with a mild bike wash using a soft cloth.

Thanks for the video, it was very helpfull to service my lefty by myself but i just can't put the cartrigde back in. @RBC_tech

Hi cristianramirezargel8290 thanks for your message and support of out channel. So when you removed the damper there was a silver tube section roughly 8cm long that was still attached to the main air seal head, correct? if so this silver tube section belongs on the damper body and not connected to the main air seal head. This should be removed and refitted to the damper for it to pass through the 2 X ring seals at the top of the stanction. The damper needs this piece attached as its tapered at the bottom allowing it to pass through these seals. Trying to fit the damper without this part fitted will result in the X ring seals being cut.

Dear Robbie, I really enjoyed watching your video (already several times now 🙂) I did a couple of bleeds on my charger 2 damper, but still no firm lockout. So I guess it must be a problem internally. I will open the compression unit soon for inspection of that special O-ring you mentioned around 6min30 in your video. I hope it is replaceable on the normal Charger 2 damper (please advise), because I saw another video of you on a Raceday Charger, and there you had to install another special piece with an O ring that could be changed. First off, thanks for your videos. I just found this channel, looking first Lefty service related information. So I was really happy to see these amazing tutorial videos. Now I got a question: Having owned a Cannondale Scalpel 2006 before, I love the Lefty. I am actually hesitating to buy a Lefty fork again and could either go for a Lefty Supermax Carbon 130mm or the Ocho 100 Alloy. While I still love the looks of the older Lefty suspensions, I am worried about not being able to get it serviced due to spare parts becoming more and more scarce (well, the other issue is that the clamp distance needs to fit the frame and I would have to get an adapter steer tube to fit a non-Cannondale frame. With all these things said, if going for the Ocho, I would definitely prefer the Ocho Carbon 120, but that is currently out of reach. The 100mm travel Alloy Ocho would fit my current bike, but I would lose 40mm of travel. That sounds like a lot of pros and cons, so my question @RBC_tech is whether you would recommend getting a “legacy. Lefty at all in 2024 or rather not. Thanks in advance for your input!

@RBC_tech
@RBC_tech 4 ай бұрын
@iceagle58, thanks for your message and support of our channel. So as I understand that air in the ramp up chamber is going directly to the main air chamber. When you did the service did you replace the quad seal on the ramp up chamber piston and have you remembered to refit the ramp up air piston and push it all the way to the top? My recommendation is to remove the air cartridge and check you have fitted the the ramp up piston. If you took off the main air piston when doing the service there is a O-ring under this so when it goes back remember to include this as well as the Loctite to ensure that piston does not come apart. I think that you have left some part out, please check your procedures and try again. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Rob! Since I use the Rock Shox Race Day Damper in a Scott Spark for 2 years it has been replaced 3 times already by guarantee demand. Now I received a version 2 of that Race Day 2 damper. It is the Scott Version with 3 modes. Problem always was the lock out and the great leak of oil to the fork shaft. I hoped to get now a perfect lockout with that version 2 (red screw at the lower end of the damper body). Unfortunately again there is no precise logout. May I ask you: how much oil should be inside the damper? There is only one scrow to bleed the system. After pulling out all the air has the oil level to be at the upper end of the bleeding srew? Would it destroy the damper if there is too much oil inside? Yours Holger
@RBC_tech
@RBC_tech 5 ай бұрын
Hi Holger, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Sorry to hear that you have been having some bad experiences with these dampers but its great to hear the Rock Shox have replaced these under warranty regardless, that's great service! There is a bleed hole in the top of the dampers so you can refill the oil whenever you feel that the level has dropped inside the damper between services. Normal experience is a lockout that only operates after 1 to 2 cm of travel or a squelchy sound coming from the damper. This means its time to bleed the damper again. Its easy to bleed and like you brakes, if you keep it bled by toping it up from time to time then it will work really well for you. Keep in mind that the damper oil should be replaced completely when the fork is serviced as just topping up the oil as described above wont flush out any dirty oil. This should keep the damper running smooth for a long time.

Hello, first of all, I would like to thank you very much for the great service videos. Please make more of these because there are no such high quality videos on KZbin. I have a new Cannondale Scalpel HT2 (2023) bike equipped with aloy Lefty Ocho 100mm. Therefore, I am very interested in getting some answers to a few questions from you: 1. Do you recommend performing the first service before the designated time of 50 hours to correct any factory errors? 2. You mention in the video (which is also visible on the Cannondale website), that there is a "new" version of the Aloy Lefty Ocho 100mm fork. What is the difference between the new version and the old one because I can't find anything about it on the Internet? Ts there any way to check whether you have a new or old version of the fork? 3. you recommend using grease for the bearings. Wouldn't servicing just the lower leg wash out all the grease out of the bearings? It's possible that I don't understand something and correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to maintain grease lubrication, the cartridge with bearings should be removed at every service? I will be grateful for your response.
