I'm looking for tech that can generate sea ice, a pneumatics driven system of systems is my focus. The marine space can supply vast volumes of compressed air rather cheaply. Using tech with the fewest moving parts as plausable is a priority, as is rapid fabrication and thus rapid scale-up of deployment. Is anyone interested in sea ice production?

I'm creating an up-settling system for waste veg oil to filter it for use in a vehicles diesel engine. I have 5 x 44 gallon drums in series. I add 20 ltrs of oil at a time to the first drum which has a funnel that gravity feeds down inside the first drum till about 6 inches from the bottom. The oil then travels up to nearly the top and reaches the outlet then flows out the side of the first drum inside the next drum at the same level down a PVC 1" pipe and again down until 6 inches from the bottom. The lids can come off the drum but i leave them on and sealed, but! It seemed to me that air had a way to travel all the pipes and ways of the system i thought gravity would push it through. But upon first filling the first drum it started to go into the next drum ok but when it reached the 6 inch level of the second drum it stopped and the first drum filled and overflowed. A nice mess went on the floor. I am able to disconnect the hose fittings between each drum, i did that with the first and second drum and it seems to fill the clear hose with oil again and flow. I also sat the lids ajar with a bit of metal so air goes in. I'm not sure if this will work but i put another 20ltrs in and it will slowly gravity feed down in the small holes in the funnel and will see if it will work when i see it again tomorrow. Any suggestions or ideas? Or once the system is primed might it be right? Its more tricky then i thought.

The HARS fins are quite clever, and I suspect they will have useful applications in other systems as well. Dipping them in silicone oil is another brilliant idea. Well done!

Wow I swear I've been thinking about a very, very similar idea for Stirling cycle for years. Too bad I've been to busy to make it real, I hope for you it really works. During my work on my own project I was concerned about piston instabilities due to oil/fins interactions and about the fact that the increased weight and drag caused by fins in oil would make the piston way harder to move. Did you observed such phenomenon ?

This video was put out 3 years ago. I thought the fluid and fins offered great opportunity for thermal energy transfer. It would be nice to see an update on this idea. It's trully unique and i wish it success.

I'm a bit confused. Don't we need to add the calculated delta p to the line pressure to work out the maximum shock pressure before calculating the safety factor (i.e. piping rated pressure / maximum shock pressure)?

What's the best wattage and efficiency you can get for generating work from heat? Example: Heat source= 60-130 deg C (water, and variable amounts of CO2 ) , Cold=4 to minus 20 deg C (Wind-chill/CO2/Di-Methyl-Ether).

1-((273-20)/(273+130))~37.2% Quite a diiference, depending on whose equation you trust. I think the more pragmatic equation is the one with the square root.

There's a Reddit post under "AskEnginners". The title is: "Could a geothermal Stirling engine electricity generation like this work?" I made some comments there. Might interest you. Also, on Reserachgate, there is an post "What is the maximum efficiency of a stirling engine?" by Krishna kanth Mundada, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. In the comments is an answer to his question. It cites the equation: Efficiency = 1-sqrt(Tc/Th), instead of the usual Carnot Efficiency 1-(Tc/Th), and also states that Carnot's model was unrealistic. Any thoughts on this? Which equation is best, or is there an even better one?
