I have enjoyed parts of the AC 75 but this still leaves it for dead if you like sailing...This is chess not draughts.

The ACup has lost its ways. It use to be about the sailors and the designers and their abilities and capabilities. Ellison and his "American way" destroyed that. Design anything that goes faster at any cost is a bad idea, a suicidal idea. We will regret the deep not allowing everyone to oppose that. The ACup is now the equivalent of the brainless macho mentality of the Indy 500. Turn left, Turn left, Turn left...

I think that the AC 75 was the best design for the America's Cup. It was lightyears ahead of the old 12 Metres and required true sailing skills, tactics, and strategy. Boat handling, sail handling (or not, as we saw when Australia One rounded the first weather mark), and old school seat of the pants sailing is infinitely better than these carbon fibre abominations that they have zooming around the America's Cup courses now. These were beautiful boats and their pre-start maneuvering brought new meaning to the phrase, "The mating dance of the lead-bottomed money gobblers." lol

A bit late, but thank you for this. I followed the 'Cup from 1962, when Gretel was the first Australian challenger, all the way through to the end of the AC-Class era. Once nationalism went out of it (designers/crews etc from the separate nations) and the boats changed to the the things we see today, my interest died. It's great to relive the good old days. :)

This is real American Cup racing, close battle all the way the new "flying" boats have done nothing but take the joy of this sport and stomped all over it.
