it doesn't work for me when i want to enter measurements manually for offset tool or tape measure. so frustrated
@tomstuart26524 күн бұрын
As a beginner this is fantastic. I have some small projects I have been trying to sketch but it’s difficult to get an accurate representation. This helped me get started on the first one. Thanks

You did your offset inside the measured walls? So you lost that space inside the room, no?
@CWebbTutorials3 күн бұрын
Yes, that is how it works.

Yes, use the orbit tool to get a different view and use the push/pull tool to raise the walls.

Is there a way to keep track of materials so you have a list of needs at the end? And, ty for going slow with details.

FYI, excellent tutorial, answered a huge question for me.
@papabear-202519 күн бұрын
I realize you are trying to keep it simple, but it would be important to teach that top plates always overlap and interlock with adjacent walls for strength. Also, you mention the doors are heavy, then you should plan for a header in the door frame which will require two trimmer studs on each side with the header resting on them.
@papabear-202521 күн бұрын
you may not read these comments now, but I'm using an ipad and I haven't figured out the way to do the x8 step to copy multiple studs

Sorry I’ve never owned an iPad so I’m not sure how it’s different. I plan to get one and I’ll definitely make tutorials when I do!

When I tried to copy my first stud component over to the second one and then the other 8, part of the back of all the copied studs were erased, or not there. I don't know how that happened. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
@CWebbTutorials29 күн бұрын
It seems you did not have the back of the studs selected when you copied them. Did you make them a component? If so it should have avoided this. If they are components you can also fix one and it will simultaneously fix the others.
@johncontos957726 күн бұрын
@ I did make it a component but I may have done it incorrectly or something. I can edit a component, correct? Is that easy to do? I will try it out . Thanks for the help

Why not just use the circle tool, select 6 sides and then the radius. Offset the the thickness of the timber from the outer edge. Remove the center and then pull it to the width of the timber?

This was a great introductory video for SketchUp. I've never used sketching programs before and was looking for something easy to use as a beginner. I am building a cabinet for a 3D resin printer and did a rough draft on paper. I wanted a more visual representation of how my cuts would look on a 4x8 sheet of melamine and assemble it using SketchUp. Your instructions were easy to follow for a beginner like me. Thank you for the great tutorial.

I don’t think there is a free version for iPads. Check the SketchUp website
