@daftenclassic I simply asked WHY that van and the SUV were in a group of VW campers. There was nothing judgmental in my question. I merely commented on how they stuck out from the rest.....which they do. I couldn't care less what he, or anyone else drives. Happy Travels.

This was strangely entertaining, not sure why. Was it the fabulous scenery? Or the music? The spirit of adventure? Had to have been the VW's. I have owned ten in my lifetime, starting with a '59 panel van (36 hp), and including a '71 21-window van (I would be a wealthy man now if I had not traded in my '66 Mustang for it, and then later sold the van, but I was young and dumb). My Dad bought a new '57 Kombi off the lot at Crest Motors in Escondido, and nobody else in town had one. It was the only vehicle with the side doors he could load egg crates into by hand.

That is Mike Stinson. He had raced that bug at Medford Dragstrip for 40 years. His best time is a 10.60 1/4 mile.

This is the "Street" Class. Street tires, carbs only, stock VW style heads, mufflers, pump gas. My car is the black one. This was my first hit on a fresh engine and gearbox. I went from first to 4th gear and the track was slick!

Sounds like me , when I used to work at a locàl V.W dealership ,just barely got my big kinda touching 98 miles an hour ,then I graduated to a2110 Big boy motor 1.6. Days long gone

It's 100 degrees and the track is sprayed down with extra glue. Some cars were still going sideways but it's not necessarily a bad engine tune
