So many people are clueless about lighters. Its wild, how do lighters get air in them? If you are filling them with butane, how is air getting in there? lol Its not air its gaseous butane. its fine. You want it in there, when you add more butane it will create pressure in there so the liquid can stay liquid. Because liquid has no pressure and you need some gaseous butane in there to hold the liquid in a liquid state. On top of the 4 stage filling cycle having 2 bleeding stages already.... lol

I had a great experience last week. I ordered 2 pounds of bulk pipe tobacco, 3 traditional clay pipes and 2 cigars from Pipes and Cigars. When my package came it had the 2 pounds of bulk, the 2 cigars and only 2 clay pipes, but in the packaging material there was a $350 Meerschaum Depot Insignia pipe in its case. I checked my order again to make sure I didn’t somehow order it (although I didn’t know how), and sure enough it wasn’t part of my order. So I called their customer service and told them if they could email me a shipping label I would send it back. The lady said, “Thank you for your honesty, but you can keep the pipe and we will send you the clay pipe that was missing.” I said, thank you very, very much and that I didn’t really need that clay pipe anyway! I have a decent collection of pipes and this meerschuam has become my favorite pipe of the collection! And they have a very loyal customer!

I agree on the hold. I just got a meer from MBSD and realized that the wax gets tacky when it warms up, so I’ve moved to holding the stem and it just looks nicer. But my briars are just more comfortable to hold in my palm and also a good way to make sure I’m not running it too hot.

So the Kildare version has the silver (more expensive; $100 vs. $130). Any rocky donegals are the cheap ones. I think the wood is worse, hence they cover it up with the “rocky”. That’s why smoother ones with brighter colors are more expensive. The better pieces of wood.

Do you have a calabash pipe?
@Blend-Belomorkanal
@Blend-Belomorkanal 8 ай бұрын
Oh no, you’re tempting me to buy a gourd calabash, aren’t you? 😂 I love the look and the concept of a true meer bowl gourd body calabash. I’ve had multiple gourds in my cart at Calabash Pipes World on eBay (a direct Turkish pipe maker). For now, I have a Peterson PSB Sherlock Holmes P-Lip calabash shaped pipe. But alas, it’s a standard briar smoker without a removable bowl and calabash chamber. :) I rarely smoke it, so I might sell it and hope it gets smoked by someone who loves newer Petersons. Thanks for asking!

Whatever works i say. If the grinder is helping... use it. Over tamping is an issue i see some people do. You could talk on that. I see people go nuts with the tamper. Craming the tobacco down in the bowl. Making it hard to draw. I do minimal tamping and always tamp the edges more than the middle. So not to crush the ember and snuff out the pipe.
@Blend-Belomorkanal
@Blend-Belomorkanal 8 ай бұрын
It’s funny how I think we all go through a phase of tamping too much / hard early on. Maybe for a beginner, the pipe tool is in reach and seems helpful in the moment. Frustration leads to more tamping, and suddenly we have a compacted bowl of crushed dottle, no oxygen 😂 The coffee grinder definitely isn’t a necessity. If it broke tomorrow I might not buy another for tobacco. But it’s a fun way to experiment. :)

Just got an Andreas Bauer from an estate seller on Instagram. Great price too, and everything looks authentic. hopefully, it passes the test when i get it. One thing I noticed though is that the amberoid stem straightened slightly. I was wondering if boiling water could help reset it. If not then I may have to get me a heat gun.

Wow, an actual Andreas Bauer. I’ve seen a few estates of that make floating around online. I guess a legendary German maker is probably hard to find after turkey’s ban on exporting uncarved block. I’m sure you won’t forget to stick a fluffy pipe cleaner in the stem before you heat it so stop the airway from caving. (I forgot once 😂) Heat guns are so cheap, obviously multi purpose too. I re-bend and edit my stems all too often as you can see 😂 Thanks for stopping by!!

My Donegal Rocky bent apple is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, and it'll be my first Peterson. For the longest, I was hesitant to buy one due to the QC complaints I seem to hear from every other person. Sending it back is always an option, though . How did your pipe smoke? Also, what is that sexy little cob at the far left called? I'm loving these acrylic stemmed MM pipes but the cheapskate in me just can't fork over $40 for a cob, ya know? I might just have to break down and do it, however, because they're really neat looking smokers.
@Blend-Belomorkanal
@Blend-Belomorkanal 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by! The Donegal Rocky 150 here was my first Peterson / “real” branded briar pipe too :) I think the QC complaints were significant to me at the time. I hadn’t done much tinkering with my pipes at the time. My 150 whistled loudly out the box. I fixed this many months later using the proper drill bit to remove a burr inside the airway. Still a qc concern, but manageable with a quick google search. I sold it recently, because I’ve become addicted to profusely editing stem buttons to fit my strange demands for a prominent button. The default stems on 99% of pipes are so uncomfortable in comparison that I’m not sure I want to buy any non-estate pipes wish torn up stems any time soon lol I bought a Peterson 999 bent Rhodesian estate from SP that I returned. The drill was very much skewed to the left and far too low. I made a financial loss in the return shipping cost lol. But I guess their leniency in returns makes up due this qc issue somewhat. eBay purchases and other stores often have no such lenience SmokingPipes often does not disclose important flaws with their estates I’ve noticed. Perhaps they know many people don’t notice or care about such flaws. Also, detecting such flaws might be hard for them. Maybe having a too high standard will render them limited in offerings? Laudisi, the parent company of SP I think, is the primary US distributor of Peterson these days I think. So lower qc in SP may translate to Peterson qc dips too. A Johs bent Dublin estate I bought with very straight grain from SP had a mortise significantly “out of round”. So much so that the stem squeaked as the tenon would mush about and slip if you put a small amount of pressure on it. I found later that this is often common for these freehand style pipes that are often drilled multiple times as the carver is prioritizing grain direction. Nording freehands often get these complaints for poor mortise/tenon fits. It appears to me that the brand simply de-prioritizes the mortise precision over grain. And, there probably are enough a buyers who can’t tell or care little about this aspect. So, should SP have rejected this estate Johs? Maybe? Perhaps I care little about this rather minor flaw that will probably have no effect on the smoke (especially for a relatively cheap $80 briar). Today, I might just use a bit of epoxy and careful drilling/filing to fix the issue, if I was in love with the grain etc.

@@Blend-Belomorkanal I've come back to the hobby after a hiatus of roughly six years and have been enjoying it so much. Four months or or so I've been at it and suffer from both PAD and TAD. :) You are man who appreciates detail, and I respect that. I myself am picky with stem bits, and have recently discovered that I prefer ones that are wide, flat, and relatively thin. Softy bits are a must for me, and a thinner bit allows me to use them without things feeling too cumbersome. Anyway, thanks for the response, my friend. I just subbed and look forward to seeing more of your content!

@@zachyweezer the PAD and TAD are very relatable! 😂 I think it’s nice being aware of stem preferences. I just wish it was easier to see and feel a stem shopping online 😂 I guess nothing is as good as a brick and mortar for feeling a stem.
@zachyweezer
@zachyweezer 8 ай бұрын
@@Blend-Belomorkanal Having a good brick and mortar is a real luxury. My new Peterson smokes wonderfully, although had I seen it in person first, I likely wouldn't have bought it. The truth is that I didn't really expect it to pass a pipe cleaner (it doesnt). That doesn't seem to be a priority at the Peterson factory, even with their non-systems. What upset me is the drilling in the mortise is off-centered. Not a huge deal, but it's unfortunate. Again, it smokes well. The draw is perfect and everything stays dry.

Evening, I’m a filterless smoker generally, however I have a pipe dedicated to Vapers which I use a filter in just to knock that touch of bite off, which I dont really get if I slow down on the pipe so it’s become a mental thing I think, 😂, @13pipes did a good video about balsa wood to cut the moisture down so I’ve bought a load of balsa sticks super cheap on his advice to cut down instead of buying expensive filters I never notice nicotine but I’ve been smoking and vaping for many years

@Blend-Belomorkanal 9 ай бұрын
I can relate to you wanting to use filters on VAPer blends! 😂 I find that the Denicool crystals / Nording keystones might seem to help alleviate the sourness toward the end of the bowl with perique blends, where I often simply dump out significant amounts of tobacco with the dottle due to the sourness. Thank you for stopping by and also shouting out my little channel! Maybe I’ll try my hand at making a pipe stand! I’m not sure I’ll find a 100 year old pellet shot into the tree I’m cutting though! 🌳 😉
