I hate how you can't legally own some shows these days. I love Lovesick but i can't even buy it physically, i can only stream it. So of course i went the pirate way.

I remember Redbox before discovering Netflix. Used to rent their dvds or blu-rays on the weekend for a movie night.

This world is starting to feel very worthless. Because worth is all we think about. But why? I feel nonchalant when I say this but, isnt this just all too great. Couldnt it be just a little more grim? Some danger wouldnt hurt. People are programmed for it. Otherwise we grow sick and tired. Just like your computer when you dont use it

Maybe people should put down the remote and get outside once in a while. People waste too much of their lives watching TV and phone content.

Torrent websites offer everything on one platform for free with ads Streaming services offer a small sliver of content for a monthly subscription... with ads. And he main argument for the latter is that "multibillion dollar companies are loosing money because of you"? How is that the downside?
@geekbaritone22 күн бұрын
Do what the smart people do, wait for great offers like $00.99 a month for Hulu for a Year and binge watch every show you can. Exclusive shows on any platform just wait for the season to end sub for a month, binge watch the whole season and cancel until next year.

I started to buy 4K blurays years ago, now I own 400+, no streaming service can match my collection for quality of movies,visuals and sound. Yeah! It cost more, but it adds to the quality of life, I look forward to buying them.
@kev203422 күн бұрын
Benefit as well is that unlike your collection will still be viewable in 20-30 years as long as you have a bluray player or have the files backed up somewhere.

Creates a KZbin video about streaming and ads. Then says they hate ads. Irony, monetizes video and plays ads. As a person growing up and seeing all the media formats changing. Napster was still the best idea out of all of them.

I have to even pirating my favorite shows nowadays because I refused to pay for something I like that I can't own or touch. We're basically in the era of never-ending rental period with these streaming services, at least back in the days during your rental period the show won't just suddenly disappear for no reason and you actually got to hold a copy of a movie or shows. I like to have options and each passing year they're giving us less and less choice to watch and especially own a copy of these movies and shows. I'll never forgive what Disney did to so many shows that could have easily have its second lease of life on physical media but nope they have to just let it die cold and alone under their complete control. I wonder why they released two Ducktales 2017 DVDs and just left it incomplete like that when they could have easily made a Blu-ray complete boxset out of it by now.

i don't know how you exercised so much restraint against making more explicit connections to how power and money operate in The Media today lollll but one of my biggest takeways is how much education has failed us by not identifying the political motivations behind the development of new media. grrrr angry (great video i really appreciated all the research)

For the longest time streaming meant only 3 services. Netflix, hulu & Amazon prime. Now we’ve also got disney+, HBO MAX, Paramount+, KZbin premium, Apple TV, sling, discovery+, peacock, starz, showtime, shudder, Screambox, AMC+, crackle, Tubi, TLC go, freevee, MGM+……

In 1983 Canadian children were viewing something like 5 or 6 hours of television per day. That's just a few channels on a _dial_ - mostly general audience sitcoms, sports, news, and such (children's shows were on Saturday mornings). 5 or 6 hours of this, when you're home from school at 3:30 or 4:00! I escaped, one summer, because the TV fried itself and for one week all I could stare at was the clean spot on the dusty shelf where it had sat. I experienced withdrawal. I learned boredom is not what I thought it was. I had fantasy novels and I lived in the country. So when the TV returned from the shop I switched it on and grasped the dial, turned it clicking through the various channels without really watching and then switched the TV off and walked away.

Great video. One objection. Drums might be better than runners in some cases but they have disadvantages that explain why they didn't see wide use in colonial America. First, they are heavily dependent on the landscape and wind. Hills, valleys, strong adverse winds will all render them inoperable. Furthermore, they are not suitable for urban settings or river crossings where ambient noise will drown the signal. Mad respect though. Great video
@testdummymediaАй бұрын
These are decent points about the technical characteristics! To be clear, I do think there are efficiency and suitability concerns (Carringtons book describes the placement of drums along rivers and usage based on time of day). The broader point still follows though that political decisions suppressed some mediums and augments others, not that you were directly disagreeing with that. Glad you enjoyed :)

Started watching you because of your content addiction video. I'm a physicist in my day time and I'm thinking that there's two ways to market this (I'm early in the video so feel free to choose what's the most applicable) 0:48 . 1.) The Science KZbin section. There's BobbyBroccoli who makes great particle / telecomm physics videos who is super sociable and gave me advice on a video who im sure would be happy to advertise this for you if he likes it. If you're going more the sciency route, I'd suggest losing the video essay part of the title, have the title be more clear for that market such as "How Electromagnetic Waves Revolutionize Communication" or something like thias,and make the thumbnail more sciency. 2.) You could get the tech community interested. I know less about this community, but im thinking itd just be more about technological progression. Like a "How We Went From This To This". I'm not sure what was the predecessor, but lets say it was letter via horse, it'd be like "How Society Went From The Horse To Telegram", with the thumbnail showing that progression with a split screen. Im just chatting shit over here but i hope this is somewhat helpful :)

Opened the video because I love your content. Although I'm afraid that the public unfamiliar with your content won't click on the video about the relics of the past such as telegraphs. I remember learning semaphore with flags in boy scouts which is basically identical in concept to that first telegraph. Only context that I can remember learning is using it to communicate between ships at sea, would've been cool to have a bit more background on these other types of non-electric telecommunication and reminds me that I wanted to try to become a merit badge counselor maybe I will look into that again. . . Anyway great video I like the improved setup and felt invested the whole way through. Only thing is that even though I am subscribed and have watched your past content, I feel like I am rediscovering your channel again because the name "Dummy" just doesn't stick well in my mind. Maybe you changed your pfp too and that had an impact?
@killingtimeitselfАй бұрын
the channel used to be titled "test dummy" and the PFP was a test dummy, the branding was definitely more memorable in the past, though now it's more personable, so.
@testdummymediaАй бұрын
I’m receptive to comments like these (you’re not the first to note that Dummy isn’t memorable) but I also like it a lot so that’s been annoying from a decision-making perspective lol
