It became a commonplace and common sense idea in the late 19th century that the body and its movement even breathing and conservation ,focus &weight were the central thing in playing any instrument . One asks oneself what does it mean to be a pupil of Liszt -he had no realteachable method but he had a genius ,personality and from his letters and life one knows he really lived and learned. You hear the records of every one who worked with him and you hear nothing in common the same with Leschetitzky, Rubinstein's ,Siloti,Diemer,Cortot...-one wonders how well little Clara Schumann played . D'Albert was too old when he was recorded the live Emperor he left says what to us? Rosenthal and Sauer left the best and Sauer was already formed when he came to Liszt. I think the foundation is learned before u reach 12 and then u make the rounds of great,famous teachers and learn about art.Great players make their own path there is no way as Machado said .Everyday i hear unknowns give unforgettable readings of great music then I hear entirely forgettable performances by famous proponents. Ask yourself whyhave blacksascended and ruled the top in every industry and profession but we only hear the best black singers . Don't tell me blacks can't afford lessons , a piano or the mindless popculture never allows creativity to flower. The teachers control the competitions ! Why aren't more blacks in classical music and why is it only singers who make the top grade . LeonBates,Andre Watts,the young Cliburn winner will go far he has complete training!taste,style and like everyone else can do anything at a keyboard, the guy who won the Leventritt does not have a big technique his musicality suffices for some .

Arrau went to Germany when he was eight years old, together with his mother and sister, as he had a support of the chilean governement. In Berlin he was pupil of Martin Krause, a pupil of Franz Liszt. He stayed in Germany and lived in Berlin until 1941 as he went to the Uinetd States, where he stayed until his wifre died, in New York. After her passing away he went back to Germany and had just bought an apartement in Munich as he died in 1991.

Thank you for passing on some idea of the technique of Arrau. Did you happen to know or meet Greville Rothen in Munich?

@Oxenoverborragia Жыл бұрын
Hallo. Yes, I met Greville in Munich and kew him personaly aas well. At that point I was very young, having classes by Rafael, in 1979. I have played for Greville very shortly, Schumannś Synphonic Studies, in his napartement, by I never had classes with him. Later I invited him to Brazil, but he was mentaly not healty any more, what is veri sad. We are not many more, remaining from that time. I am probably the youngest of all and I stil have some students who have classes by internet as well.

Greville taught us here in Australia over the summer break 1975-77. I did the Schumann with him, a real advance in technique, totally new to us all. Thank you Noel for your kind d reply. BTW just a suggestion oops, perhaps clean your piano keyboard, it's a little distracting from your valuable teaching. A little cloudy ammonia is great to clean it up. Cheers again, Peter

No problem, Jef. It' is nevertheless a blaim to recognize the own uncapability to understand some thing . Many of such things demands a lot of time to learn. For some is an entire life not enough for that. In other words, for some less begiftet people I use to say: It' s on you. For some it's impossible to understand (even this).

To many aspects to explain in 60 minutes. The film maker didn' understand how important it was to show my hands and and arms at the right moment. It takes at least one or two years and hard work to assimilate all of it's particularities that we explained in this video until it turns into a very natural thing and makes an unique and entire whole thing of body and mind...and so it may become virtuosity.
