Last I checked the only reason this was controversial was because some rich douchebag didn’t want this bridge built because it would take traffic away from his aging almost 100 year old bridge two miles up stream. Which he refuses to repair btw

I hate that they are calling this building 'Carbon Positive' because that is the exact opposite language everyone else uses to talk about this concept. The building is Carbon Negative because it removes more Carbon than it generates.

Lol an aspen tree!?? Lolol umm no! Damn hippies can tell you people anything and you will believe it! This is actually a copied design from ancient Muslim buildings for the desert! For the Olympics a few years ago Dubai built an entire city for Olympians no AC perfect air flow to keep place cold or hot! Look it up! This building is a sad copy really!

I'm glad you noted the structural differences between 1 & 2, but its worth saying that the differences continue above ground too. 2 Manhattan West is basically an all-steel structure (braced steel core and perimeter steel columns) similar to the original WTC towers and 30 Hudson Yards, whereas 1 MW has the unconventional base, but above is a standard steel perimeter column, concrete core structure (typical of modern high-rise office buildings).

Canadians get all tolls until the loan is paid!! Love it. Canadians have a strong public finance system for infrastructure.

It will take approximately 200 years to make profit due to scandals on the Canadian project side. The tolls aren’t going to be cheap for vehicle crossing.
@DD-vf9ow2 күн бұрын
So Canadian funds were used to leverage $2.2Bn of USA highway funds so we are still paying about half the construction cost. Am I misinterpreting here? This is an awesome bridge project and will reduce traffic congestion and pollution in downtown Windsor

If the hotel’s goal is to capture high end business travelers and convention goers than the need for parking will be lessened. There is also a free shuttle up and down Denver’s 16th st to assist in getting around. Also, there are several train options to get around town and the airport. Hypothetically, the lack of parking spaces can work out for everyone.

I love Jeanne Gang's designs, and even thought this isn't my favorite, it's quite playful for an American structure. The lack of onsite parking seems problematic, although I assume they know what they're doing beyond saving the associated costs involved.

This structure is not in the tradition of the Chicago School of Architecture. Buildings such as the First National Bank, the John Hancock Center, are steel frame skyscrapers in the Chicago tradition. The M1 is of reinforced-concrete, an inferior technique that will deteriorate with age. Remember the collapse of the Surfside condo in Florida, it was of this type.

No onsite parking will actually improve traffic congestion. More parking = more induced vehicle trips
@automagic113 күн бұрын
this could be true but it would not be used by people who actually live in Denver, but rather by visitors. therefore, if the visitors have rented a car (which might be necessary in a city like denver) they would need to park it somewhere. If it was somewhere that denver residents would go to on a regular basis, like a grocery store without parking, that would most likely improve traffic around the area
@automagic113 күн бұрын
i guess that because of the resturant, and because visitors dont have to rent a car, it might, but it wouldnt make as muchh of an impact as if it was a grocery store or something without parking

Nice! But you should replace the irresponsible private video dangerously flying over the working area with something from an approved source. It's not good to egg people on with toy drones by giving them more reach. Maybe even reach out to the Gordie Howe International Bridge Authority for approved video? They have MUCH nicer stuff actually taken by videographers on the bridge. In the future, working with the people running the project, using the high quality of your video presentation as an example, will get you access to better footage that's approved.

Doesn't sound that affordable to me. Overall I think this tower is a big bore. Adds nothing interesting to the skyline and because of the smaller base and widening tower just looks like a glass building being squeezed into a smaller building below. The only good thing I can say about it is at least its not as hideous as Jahns State of Illinois Center monstrosity.

One of the issues with the Ambassador bridge (on the Canada side) is you have to get off the highway and go though downtown Windsor. That's ok if you're headed to a ball game or something downtown Detroit, but no good for anyone just passing through
