I really enjoyed Danse Macabre and I think it’s a very worthy replacement of Spookslot, but I do think that making it so much more frantic and high-paced like it is now has made it less… macabre. I think the amount of silences, the slowness, the hanging man, the monks singing as they walked through the passageway from Spookslot were the things that made it so perfectly spooky and eerie. Now it’s just a really fantastic ghost-themed ride, but it doesn’t feel as ghostly anymore. I would have liked more slow spinning around to focus on creepy details rather than the super high-paced spinning where you can barely see anything. That said, I do think the spinning and tilting matches the music perfectly, and I loved the part where you feel yourself shifting around subtly in complete darkness

I'm from the netherlands, thank you for making a video about the new attraction from the Efteling. Allow me to write down the preshow story you hear in the graveyard about the ride. Dutch: Gegroet, moedige sterveling. English: Greetings, brave mortal. Here in the centuries-old huyver forest, you will find yourself among the sleeping ruins of the abbey of the Kapelle of Kaatsheuvel. A long, long time ago on Friday the 13th of the year 1876, the entire orchestra of the idiosyncratic conductor, Joseph Charlatan, disappeared here during an international music competition. After a masterful performance of the piece Danse Macabre, the musicians were ruthlessly engulfed by the 'Unnameable' evil. That still haunts these parts today and manifests itself as a monstrous cat-like creature. Cursed and damned for eternity, the conductor and his orchestra play the Danse Macabre in the Chapel of the abbey until the end of time. Be on your guard, mortal, and above all avoid any contact with a seemingly miserable black kitten. The unnameable is everywhere, and nothing here is what it seems.

After watching this video, I am saddened to inform you that what you have contracted is known as “Eftelingitus”. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Eftelingitus at this time. However, there ARE steps you can take to keep it under control; Going back to Efteling will provide the longest relief, moving to Holland may help, but only if you live near Efteling. Some things that you want to avoid are; Binge-watching Efteling KZbin videos, habitually listening to soundtracks from any Efteling ride, or going to ANY Disney park! Again, you have my true sympathy, as I myself contracted Eftelingitus many years ago. And please be careful who you take to Efteling - Eftelingitus is extremely contagious! 😉

This was an amazing video, and I fully agree with your praises and also your critisism. It does feel a bit too short, and the projections are indeed a bit lacking. Luckely these are things that can be changed in the future, and I do hope they do that. I do also hope that they maybe make the "pre-show" a bit more international friendly, like they did with previous attractions, again this would be probably just tweaks in the audio, or have a ghost somewhere say the thing in english. As someone who has been lately trying to make videos to show the history of the park in english, I do know the struggle of how some parts of the park are very Dutch focussed. overal an amazing video, and I do hope to see more videos of you in the future.

Thanks for the comment dude. I'm totally fine if the pre-show was completely in dutch, something like Villa Volta if that was every attraction. But, since Efteling are starting to market themselves in the UK, you can see their posters on buses etc... it's a strange decision to have the only part of the attraction that explains what's happening in one language hahah!

Honestly as a dutchmen i find the destruction of spookslot to be a huge waste, danse macabre isn't even nearly as good as spookslot... And given the age i feel like it should have been donated to the conservationist group that actually offered to take in the old attraction in Tilburg next to kaatsheuvel but the efteling refused. And given that the efteling had made some extremely bad choices regarding spookslot, droomvlucht and even the steamtrain running through it i have completely lost interest in ever going to the efteling...

Yes this was amazing. You made something so beautiful and i thought your 'what makes the Efteling so special' video a one time thing. But no, you did it again. Thank you for loving "my" park so so much and showing it so beautifully. So thank you. I agree that it is short and i understand why they choose to do that. Capacity. I think when the ride gets less busy they might make the ride longer, maybe..But then they have to adjust the music as well so i am not sure they ever gonna do that. I like the ride very much but i felt like they ran out of budget and made decisions purely based out of necessity and not because they wanted it that way. But this is totally my view on it, not based on facts. I understand why there could be a language barrier with this attraction. I was surprised they did not do anything in english. However i think they made it like that because it takes place in a village in the Netherlands so many years ago (nobody spoke english back then) so it makes sense to me that it is in all dutch. But they could've at least shown the story in english somewhere.
@corinneeaglebridge
@corinneeaglebridge 13 күн бұрын
Yeah, I agree on the language thing. There *is* an English newspaper article outside the attraction (in the same case as the posters and such) but it’s easy to miss and not in an area most would pass until *after* they’d been on the ride. The making-of-shorts with the lore do have English subtitles though, so at least there’s that!

A little translation for some keywords. Slot = small castle - spook = ghost/spectre - huiver = shiver (so shiverplaza roughly translated) - and a charlatan = quack dockter like in the 1800’s.

Maybe they need to do the talking on the graves in dutch and English. Here in Belgium like in walibi the pre show of the vekoma madhouse is in Dutch and french. So both dutch speaking part and french speaking part can understand the story. They switch between dutch and french in quite fluid away. So maybe they can do that to? A few notes from a frequent Efteling goer and big Danse Macabre fan: 1. The "pre-show", from what I've heard, was rushed and not implemented until the very last batch of pre-openings. With Eftelings recent tendency to do spoken pre-shows in a mix between Dutch and English, it's not entirely unthinkable that they'll change it in the future. 2. The final stretch of waiting in the dark that feels like hours, has 2 functions. Firstly, it allows your eyes to get used to the dark. Once you enter the ride area, it's very dimly lit as well. If the final waiting section had been outside, or brightly lit, your eyes would not have enough time to get used to the dim show and you'd miss a lot of things. Secondly, it's filles with small Spookslot easter eggs, like the ghostly laughter, the music, the moaning man, and some of the cat noises. 3. Efteling has hinted at twaking the main show a little bit more, with the motion stage currently not using its full range of motion. But that's also mainly rumours. 4. The projections are, in their current form, indeed very underwhelming. The violin one makes sense because it's a difficult motion to do with an animatronic. Especially if you want it to match the actual music, which wasn't the case in Spookslot. The animation of the Unnamable, however, makes no sense to me. They could've done this with an actual animatronic head. Or, better yet, leave it out of there altogether. In my opinion, that window could've been used for another orchestra player, maybe a brass instrument? For a place where an entire orchestra supposedly vanished, there's a weird lack of players.
@Jasperge99
@Jasperge99 13 күн бұрын
Yeah, maybe add a few from the “Kabinet der Vermisten”. Don’t know if the “Oosterse Geest” would fit the vibe well, but he’s on that board. Maybe the “Jammerende Man” could be used as that tuba player that’s depicted on the board? And of course Catherine Arbuste is a pick for a character to fill that spot (the opera singer).
@Smileynator
@Smileynator 11 күн бұрын
I concur on the violin. I feel they should properly record an actual violist playing the piece, in a black suit with an actual painted violin, and then use that footage for a proper looking quality projection, if you have to have a projection anyway, it better be good.
@fnollo7870
@fnollo7870 10 күн бұрын
@@Smileynator That would be a very good solution, too. Though I don't know if anyone is willing to let their pricy violin be painted with blacklight paint. Maybe a prop violin and an actual player so they know how to handle a violin.
