I got a skull cup and 1 inspiration token gets put in per player. They can use any amount as long there is tokens in there. I add tokens to it when players remember key things in story or help with rules

I love bags of holding and portable holes. I had a party put up shelves in their portable hole, so they could keep everything organized for when they jumped into it. They could just find something in its place on the shelves, rather than digging through some big ol' pile in the middle. Of course, the bag of holding is easy to use. You just have to know what you want, and reach in and grab it. I also like giving a "bag of colding," which is great for food storage, or maybe storing monster bits they have harvested (to be used for crafting and making potions and stuff). Or if you just want to hold 500 pounds of frozen sorbets, so you can enjoy a lovely treat at the end of a long day. Whatever floats your folding boat.

The coolest thing i did with the echo knight was after being banished into a realm with a never ending staircase and demons chasing me up the stairs I swapped places with my echo to bypass the banishment. I'm not sure if it was allowed but my dm thought it was really cool so he allowed it 😅

I was a long ago admirer of the very dynamic Mage the Ascension Spheres. I find that the Powers in Savage Worlds feels like the more approachable version of those Spheres in a way. Not that one must build a spell from connecting Powers together, but that the Powers are a bit more like Spheres in presentation. It is a poor comparison, but the best I got.

First time DM, years long consumer of D&D content. DM’d my first game this past weekend for my friends who’s only frame of reference for D&D is Stranger Things and Big Bang Theory. For the “water problem” I allowed them to find a ring of water walking that has 2 charges/long rest. They were in a sewer so my logic was that the sewer workers probably used the ring to easily get around and do maintenance. I also gave all of them an amulet of sparing, contains a single charge of spare the dying, because I wanted them to focus on learning the basics of the game w/o worrying too much about dying. All in all was a successful session, everyone wanted to play again to finish the story I set up for them 👏🏽👏🏽

Ive been running this with my party and have just arrived in Kalaman and met the council. I had discovered your comentry until afterwards and have semi-miss interpreted that Bakaris Snr was supposed to stay in the room, I had him very relaxed take the recess and return exactly on time. Then had him and Governer Miat walk away in deep discussion after outlying the deal. Does it make sense to possibly do bit more with the council prior to their eventual death? To make it hurt more, otherwise I’m not sure they’ll get that. Secondly our player creation probably focused a bit too much on the lore of the dragonlance setting specifically one player picked up on cataclysmic splitting the knights of solamnia and her family became disassociated from the order of the rose. I realise in the writing if this post that i should know if she’s looking to rejoin or be prooved their no good. I suspect as I dont know she’d like to explore the choice in game do you have any suggestions for what I should lean into or away from as possible story. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm currently playing a level 16 mastermind and my DM allows me to use Insightful Manipulator to pick out a weakness to exploit or if there's a particular fighting style they rely on if I can talk my way into a conversation before a fight breaks out but its the only thing I can use it for in that instance. They'll also tell me roughly how much of a difference there is in mental stats because my lowest mental stat is 16 so like if they have a significantly lower stat, like a 10-12, they'll tell me that I have the significantly superior stat in comparison.

I love the idea of playing an ancients paladin, Firbolg. This dude, who does all these good deeds but actively avoids praise and completes the tasks in a manner so other people get the praise instead of him.

If you have a campaign heavily populated with aberrations, then why the **** would you not let them protect themselves from them? It's a SINGLE USE ITEM. They'll be seeing more of them. LOTS more. The jeweler's goggle is called a loupe. The thing is just a freaking MAGNIFYING GLASS, such immense magic :P Shield of Missile Attraction is basically "HI I am the designated tank, shoot ME not my friends." Except for that curse thing. On the other hand, you're talking about up to L5. L5 is when spellcasters of appropriate varieties get 3rd rank spells. And that means they can remove curse which is rank 3.

Great video. One minor thing did you say the immovable rod is lost/destroyed/one use? The button is able to be clicked on and off over and over. I don't understand. Did you mean if they leave it behind to keep a door closed in an area they never come back to?

The gem of brightness is an absolute beast. 50 charges is a lot, even expending 5 at a time to blind bulk enemies. My last artificer-support got one and blinded almost every major enemy for the majority of the campaign. To the point that the DM started giving most monsters blindsight/truesight to compensate for the fact he knew we would blind, stun, or confuse it in the first turn.

The cursed shield is excellent for a tank though... Drawing attacks is literally what they want to do and that resistance is amazing.

I would like to have had a more streamlined combat system but they went overly simple and general so I had to buy old books on spelljammer. Sucha huge fumble

so for my session 0 i planned out an encounter for the pcs set a few months before the events of the campgian where they are introduced to ispen. where the pcs and ispen are impriosed in a goblin camp and the have to escape there bonds, gather their gear fight the goblins and fee the rest of the prisioners.so it sets up how the pcs became ispens friends as the have fought together and as a bonus helps me sets up the stories beklan tells at the funeral. im not sure whether add in some hits to a build up to a building threat like a letter from the dragon queen recuriting the goblins or somthing or they are flying the banners . but so far i think the main idea i decent setup for the campain then i will fast forward to the pcs in a tavern receving the letter from beklan about ispens funeral and on theyre way the encounter the scales of war prelude and then ending the session there.

I had the staff of python for a while, was definately my fav item, so much so that upon later meeting a deity, on accident, i talked the deity into making the python not a staff anymore, now it is a giant constrictor with a wolfs head (i had named the snake after my dog and this is just what the dm did, i love it)

This is a great video - but you said something that rubbed me the wrong way. "Felt the weight of not picking something that has dark vision". That is a game issue. Too many races have darkvision so picking a race without darkvision has become a punishment and that is lame.

An excellent use for the decanter of endless water is as a force multiplier for casters/half-casters with cold or electric/lightning damage effects. Or as a way to negate other casters with core fire-based attacks. Just don't base *all* of your future encounters on these types of enemies😮

It's 2 years later, but did any of these people's claims turn out to be true? Not a single one. It was all lies, created by TTRPG KZbinrs for clicks and clout. People should Google it themselves, if they have any integrity and have the courage to be on the side of a corporation if that happens to also be with the truth. I Don't think failure in The 5e rules as written is necessarily binary. The DM is empowered to say what a failure means. So it may be that you fail your persuasion role, but they are still willing to partially help you, or that there will be a steeper price for their help. Perhaps a lot of DMs are forgetting that you can have your players fail forward...

no offense but aside from the immovable rod, you are literally just baffling them with bullshit. providing a bunch of useless items and then giving them an occasion once in a while to use them to make them feel special... that is just condescending. they are low level players not brainless noobs.

Personally, i am not a big fan of super situational or one use magic items. I would rather wait an extra level pr two and get something that will be useful throughout the entire adventure.

I gotta push back a little bit on your criticism on blue boxes. a lot of Dms, myself included, might struggle with figuring out how to describe a scene or figure out what a NPC has to say. In fact, i think the started set should have MORE blue boxes and examples on how to run the campaign for new DMs
