Not a smart TV? Pro. Especially now that Roku OS REQUIRES an account to use the TV at all. You can't even switch inputs until you create an account, so you can't even use it for gaming. Looks like this will be my next TV.

The main reason to replace the dvd drive for me was that ive put a ssd 500GB as a main drive and then a 2TB HDD for file storage and Time Machine. The dvd drive was unusable for me. I did put it in an external USB case if I ever need to use it again.

I just got one just for my home use. So that means i wouldn't be able to do what I'll do on windows computer. Please let me know

Don't forgot to transfer the mounting studs from the old drive to the SSD (oops). Go to OWC and check out their excellent upgrade/install videos. Also, you can use Migration Assistant (Transfer your files from another Mac, Time Machine backup, or Disk) to move your files from the old drive during the Recovery installation process, it's much safer and faster than using Finder copy after installation. Another (in my mind better) way to transfer your system volume to the SSD is BEFORE UPGRADE 1) Get a USB-SATA adapter cable like shown in the video. 2) Connect the SSD to the cable and plug into one of the USB 3.0 ports. 3) Use Disk Utility to format the drive - APFS file format and GUID Partition Map. 4) Use a backup program like Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable clone of the system volume onto the SSD. 5) In the Finder, select  (Apple Menu) -> Shutdown (don't just press the power button, that's like pulling the power cord from a running desktop machine), THEN 6) perform your hardware update, swapping in the cloned SSD. After the upgrade, the Mac should just boot right into the new SSD. If not, try holding down the Option key (left of space bar) as the boots and you'll see a list of drives that you can boot from. Select the SSD and press Enter. If you don't have a lot of files to transfer or if you haven't really used this MacBook, then the method in the video may be simpler, but Internet Recovery installations can take FOR-EVER.

Got mine at 150 at a pawn shop a couple years back and I still enjoy it! Funny thing is the shop labeled it as a "smart" tv for some reason.

awesome video I have a 2010 mac book, using it with Kali for learning purposes and it runs KALI very well. Only thing I would suggest for anybody with old computers is applying new thermal paste where needed and you can replace the DVD drive for an additional storage device. I personally think 500GB SSD is more than enough space for what I am doing but just a suggestion.

Careful guys, there are two Mid 2012 15" Macbook Pro's, the Macbook Pro 2012 15" ( A1286 )and the Macbook Pro Retina 2012 15" ( A1396 )_. This procedure ONLY applies to the non-retina model. Contrary to the creators statements, adding a secondary SSD in the DVD drive bay is a substantial performance improvement ( configured in raid 0 )

Do i have to do anything to the SSD beforehand? Or can i just plug in a new one straight out of the box and then install the PS OS?
