REO was a great band. Kevin is a great vocalist. Anyone can copy the band and play the 1-4-5 progressions, so as far as I'm concerned, it's old and has now gone. I agree with Bruce - a farewell tour would've been better for all and it wasn't handled well.

England Dan and John ford coley were playing ballads with solos. Robert John (Lange) wrote “sad eyes “ before Reo. Bread? Rita Coolidge performed “we’re all alone “ and there’s a scorching Les Paul solo at the end with a phaser on it.

Well if Gary’s son felt there should have been a coming together of original members for a farewell tour he didn’t do the process any favors. He should have asked his dad if he would do a farewell tour or gig and if so suggest his dad contact all relevant past members and if they all agreed they should have approached Kevin and pitched him on the idea. Fans would love it, it’s a great closing to our legacy with a positive ending and sure to make money.

As to your question if we would praise Arnel if Steve Perry was killed in 1999, I would say yes. He's got a great voice. However, the problem is, at this point there's been so much internal drama for the last 25 years. Steve Perry would still be with the band if Neil hadn't screwed him over and waited for him to have hip surgery back in 1999. And with all the membership changes, they basically are a cover band at this point. The ultimate problem with Journey is that Neal Schon is a tyrant! And unfortunately, Arnel got caught in the crossfire. Neil did the same thing to Ross Valory, Steve Smith in ultimately, the pissing match between Neil and Jonathan Cain is indicative of Neil's need to flog a dead horse. Which this band has been doing for at 10 years. They will never be as great as they were during the era of the classic 5 lineup. So yes if Steve Perry died in 1999 and the only change was adding Arnel, I might consider seeing them again. Barring that, stick a fork in me, I'm done!😡 And the other commenters are right. The only reason this happened is because of Journeys tortuous touring schedule.

I loved Gary and REO back then. Big influence on me and made me want to play guitar. I would say Stay Awhile and Good Morning Girl by Journey could be considered a power ballads and Departure came out a few months prior to Hi Infidelity. However, I would go back and say Time For Me To Fly was a power ballad that also had big guitars on the live version but the production of the studio version was still very 70's.

Maybe it’s because Bruce’s voice has been deteriorating for the last three years. He sounds horrible on background vocals, he has no breath to sing his song, his voice is scratchy. Say what you want about Kevin‘s voice of course he doesn’t sound the same but he’s better than Bruce. I still disagree with Kevin’s decision, but everyone throwing heat on Kevin’s voice and how he performs now when they had no issue going to the shows before is clearly just because they’re upset with his actions.
@CC-ys8qq8 күн бұрын
@@Json547 Kevin has had to cancel numerous shows because he had no voice, when he came back he spoke the words because he couldn't sing them. Then KEVIN had numerous surgeries and he had to cancel shows....so Bruce never missed a show, the band sounds better with Bruces vocals, bass playing, energy on stage, connection to fans, and overall rock star vibe. The band REO Speedwagon had to cancel more shows because of KEVIN than Bruce over the years.
@Json5477 күн бұрын
@ Bruce sings backgound and 1 song. It’s a lot less vocal strain than singing lead on a whole concert. Also, the cancellations were due to a stomach surgery, not his voice. The Train singer missed a show too and so have many other singers who perform night after night.
@CC-ys8qq7 күн бұрын
@@Json547 Bruce never missed a show and played in pain for years with a bad back, he showed up and postponed surgery until he couldn't function anymore, for the band family and the fans. KEVIN took on too many shows, couldn't handle the rigors, had some sort of surgery which noone really knows what it was but we can assume, surgeries plural, cancelled shows plural all because of Kevin, octaves lowered because of Kevin, speed of songs played slowed because of Kevin. Failure of REO Speedwagon in general because of Kevin..he quit.
@CancunCindy13 сағат бұрын
I beg to differ, at least in the here & now. Cronins first scheduled show for January was cancelled obviously due to lack of ticket sales, regardless of what excuse he gave. Go look at the poor sales for the next "solo" show, Feb 22. I'll lay money on the fact that it will be cancelled as well. All that aside, if they could wait for Cronin to recover, they could have given Bruce the same courtesy. @@Json547
