While you spent a lot of time on the currency conversion you should have pointed out the weak Canadian dollar is the reason you think it's expensive.

It is safe here in Panama, we are from Alberta Canada. Prices are much better here than in Alberta. Health care is cheaper,food is fresher and more inexpensive, we have a pensionado vise that takes 5 to 6 months, car insurance is about $48.00. We live in Boquete, which is in the highlands. All good.

So the older you are the more expensive health services are we with insurance premiums and deductibles. So paying cash is a decent alternative including for regular medications. How much better is it than here in Alberta??

Where did you live after selling the house? My wife an I are in the same boat in regards to planning for retirement, and have a decision to make in regards to staying or selling and downsizing in the next 4 years in order to sock money away for retirement over the next 5-6 years after that.

We were home owners since the day we met and it was hard for us to convert to renting but now almost 5 years later we would t change for anything. No regrets at all. We now travel the world 6-8 months a year and have a “home” to come back to all the time which is our rented apartment. This gave us the ability to retire at 55 and enjoy life. We live 100% of the funds we have invested from the proceeds of the sale and haven’t lost any principle. No pensions and CPP we haven’t started yet. Hope that helps ?!?!

With the Pensionado visa you have to “go” every year? Go where?? Did you mean to say you have to “leave” the country?

My understanding is that you may have to “go” to Panama every year to keep the Pensionado visa valid. You dont have to be a citizen to hold this visa. If you choose to retire and live there year round, you don’t have to leave the country That is what I learned from a couple that lives there part time from another country. I researched on the Panamanian gov website and couldn’t find a clear detailed description of that clause. Hope that helps ???

That year the start line of the Baja 1000 was in La Paz, the race started at 1:00 am and I went to go see it. Walked back to our homestay after the starting ceremonies. Such a safe town there. Never felt anything negative there.

@@mrright1068 - we sold out place years ago and downsized to retire early. No regrets. We did a couple videos about that this past summer. Honestly language was not an issue. We won “the language lottery “ by speaking English. English is most everywhere but it wasn’t hard to communicate with Spanish speaking people anyways. Thanks for watching and for your questions !!! @@mrright1068 - it was all better than I expected except for the trash. They do have a plan that they execute for trash removal but it is different than what we are used to. Public transport was way better than we expected

We were there in Coronado in December two years ago and loved the black Volcanic sand that sparkles as well. It was neat to visit but not sure if it could be "home" for us. Great and honest review! 👍
