if you buy a boat for 100$ and nothing breaks for 10 years and you catch fish every day, then your total cost is 100$. Sailing is cheap!!!

I think your video is not a good guide for inexperienced people. you are showing the opposite attitude of how a good sailor thinks, which is: prepare for the worst and hope for the best. so I think only planning for the very minimum cost in every aspect is an unrealistic approach. maybe you have the experience and skills to deal with unexpected situations but if I was you I wouldn't expect the same from your audience. cheers, stay safe

Sailing is for the dedicated. Do you want it ? How badly do you want it? What are you willing to do for it ? What are you willing to give up for it ? Remember, you set those parameters. You decide if the dream becomes a reality or not !

My wife and are doing this next year. We own our own company in landscaping now and we are just going to finish this season out, and in the meantime we are selling all our pocession as we speak. We have roughly $50k in equity in our house, one fully paid off truck worth about $25k, all our mowing equipment at about $20k, regual tools and valuable pocessions like furniture etc at about $15k, and we have $10k in savings and hope to save up another 5 before next year. So we are hoping to have $125k ish in cash when we finally sell everything. Then, we plan on getting about a "ready to go" boat in the $30k range, or around that, and have $100k left over to use to travel the world. We have no debt besides our house, so we will literally have no payments. We are only 27 and 28, so obviously it wont last forever. We will cross that bridge when we get there.

I just purchased a 1964 Contest 25 for $20. It cost me about $1000 in trailer upgrades, fuel and trailer repairs to get her home. She is not in horrible condition and I hope to be sailing her next year.

I just bought a 1964 Contest 25-1 for $20. I transported her home on a trailer made for my Catalina 22. I pulled her with my 35ft International school bus from Washington DC to Huntsville, AL. I spent $1000 or less in fuel, trailer upgrades and emergency repairs. I am going to begin restoring her and getting her ready. The trip home was a long one. I stopped often to let the trailer tires rest. I had to jack the boat up and shift her forward. I had to hit the brakes hard to keep from hitting a car that pulled in front of me. That required trailer repairs. I managed my speed and my equipment. I crossed the Eastern Continental divide with no trailer brakes. At some point, I realized that getting this boat home was training me for sailing. The journey took far longer than expected and it required me to be innovative and repair things along the way.

for me its less about money and more about being "locked" to my current lfe. I have a 3 bed house i could rent out i guess which would pay for the life, but i also have a wife who hates the water, and would never give up her home two cats who id miss and feel like i cant escape my corpo job which sucks arse. no kids though thank god only option for me, and most others is to earn more pennies to do both..
