the subtitels are way of. For example, instead of "Pali" the software translated to "Poly," and worse, "Conciousness" is translated to "Content," and there are scores more. For beginners, this could be dangerously misleading. If this great master's dharma talk will be reproduced here the youtube statation owner should ensure correct subtitles. Thanks!

An illusion shouldn’t be defined as something that’s not real or doesn’t exist. It’s something that really exists in one way, but is perceived in a different way. A mirage is a real physical phenomenon caused by heated air. The illusion happens when it’s perceived as something else, like water. From the absolute perspective, everything is illusory. From the relative perspective, it’s all real. They’re two sides of the same coin, and both are useful. Without the absolute perspective we will always be unsatisfied. Without the relative perspective we wouldn’t even survive. There is no right and no wrong, but right is right and wrong is wrong. -Seung Sahn Though the view should be as vast as the sky, keep your conduct as fine as barley flour. -Padmasambhava

It seems like the initial awakening is about seeing that you aren’t the thoughts that arise in consciousness. A sense of self as the witness/consciousness/awareness itself often remains. Eventually, that sense of the self as pure awareness is seen to be just another arising in awareness. There is no separation between awareness and its contents.

I have a question. The sanskripts were written 400 years after the death of the buddha. How can we be sure that is what Sidarta said at the time??
@drmindfulness
@drmindfulness 27 күн бұрын
Hi, thank you for the question. The answer is a long story, and perhaps it is a legend. The Buddha's attendant was Anada, who reported having a super memory. The Buddha's talks were given in Pali, the common people's language at the time. Apparently, Anada remembered the talks and recited them to the council, and they were written down.

I listen to Ajahn Sumedho every day of my life. Because of him, my life became not so confusing. Anicca Dukkha Anatta. He read the Sutta with the words - 'Open are the doors to the deathless ... its the Pali chant after the Namo Tassa chant to the Buddha, before he gives a Dhamma talk ... it's about the the unborn, uncreated, unformed 🙏🙏🙏 He is so direct that those still 'with a little dust in their eyes' will not see. As the Buddha said, this is a practice that takes a long time. Edit - interestingly what I had said above Ajahn Sumedho has just discussed in the latest video today on the Amaravati KZbin channel of the 40th Anniversary as Amaravati means 'the deathless' - its the 40th Anniversary of Amaravati video 🙏

I think everyone has experienced no ego or separate self many times, and it just wasn’t that big of a deal. If you’ve ever “lost yourself” in a book or a movie, or been “in the flow”, where it seemed like your body was on autopilot and was just doing its thing with no “you” controlling anything, then guess what. That was the experience of no separate self. Congratulations! On the flip side, make a mistake in front of an audience and you’ll quickly become very conscious of your self, i.e., self-conscious. Once you’ve seen that the sense of self comes and goes, it becomes easier and easier to see through the illusion.

The ego does fall away at times temporarily. This happened during moments of awe. For example, beautiful sunsets or holding a newborn grandson. The spiritual awakening is a permanent state of no ego. Ego simply dissolves.

I am still at the stage of being trapped in a cycle of suffering by the ego regrets of the past, dissatisfaction with the present, self-rejection and fears of the future, while seeking to control experience in order to avoid pain, and then blaming myself instead of forgiving. Seems like a universal pattern. NIce to know there is a way out!.

Is the quality of happiness after getting an object is the same as what we get after the separate self is no more? Just that the happiness because of the object does not last forever?
@drmindfulness
@drmindfulness 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question. Lasting happiness is not possible when we believe in a separate self. As you say, it does not last forever, so we suffer. There is nothing wrong with enjoying pleasant events; suffering arises when we believe that we are separate and can, therefore, control life and make ourselves happy. It is a wheel of suffering. The happiness that arises when the egoic self falls away is uncaused and boundless.

Sir, one of my friend whose relative is a monk says that one has to give up material life to attain nirvana/ moksha as the relationships lead to distraction Is it true?
@drmindfulness
@drmindfulness 2 ай бұрын
This is a tricky question to answer. Most monks would have this perspective as they have given up material life. It would be difficult to say that it’s not necessary when you have already done it. I’ve lived with different groups of monks are quite familiar with their perspectives. There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s just the path that they took. It is not the only path. Is quite possible to have full realization and live lay person’s life. On this path, it is vital to continually examine one’s relationship to material possessions and material life. Is there a identification and attachment? Do we find our identity in certain relationships and activities? and this investigation gets even trickier as the ego will continually deceive us with regards to our relationship to material life. I hope you found this helpful. If you have any follow up questions, please feel free.

I think I'm between 2 and 3, and occasionally even 4. But I'm still too attached to material possessions, and I'm not ready to let go. I like the comforts that money can provide. Does that mean I'm less spiritual? Is being materialistic the opposite of being spiritual? Hope you can shed some light on this. 🙏🏽
@drmindfulness

This is a common misconception. Enjoying material possessions is not less spiritual. The question to investigate is whether or not you are attached to the material possessions. Attachment causes suffering, not objects. To explore attachment to material possessions ask yourself what would happen if you lost one of the possessions or if one of your possessions was damaged.
