Listening from NYC! Enjoying your podcast. Although I adore David Suchet as Poirot on TV, I have begun to like Peter Ustinov as Poirot in the films he’s done, especially’Death on the Nile’ and ‘Evil Under the Sun.’ Happy Holidays!

She’s popular just because it’s frickin’ fun to read and watch! And I recommend the book ‘A is for Arsenic’ - a book covering all the various poisons/chemicals she notes in her own books! It’s fascinating.

You mean ‘A Caribbean Mystery’ as that one you said was your favorite! I like Geraldine McEwan the best of the TV actors, and recently saw ‘Mirror Crack’d’ with Angela Lansbury - I thought she was great!

I believe that Miss Marple’s lost love, the soldier who was killed in the war, was actually a married man. When they part at the train station, he makes it clear that when he comes back, he intends to divorce his wife in order to marry her. She clearly had very painfully conflicted emotions about this. Because of these circumstances, she was left completely alone in her grief and no one ever knew she had this love in her early life. I don’t know if this was in her books or only written for the T.V. adaptation. p.s. “The Mirror Cracked” was based on the real life tragedy of actress Gene Tierney.

Is this Agatha Christie? No.

If I remember correctly, "hoagie" is American regional slang for a grinder (or sub or hero if you prefer).

This comment is gesred towards Mike Jackson: KZbin has a hate/hate relationship with robo voices. More often than not, they will force content creators to use their own voice when it comes narrating their content, or risk being demonetized. Please closely examine their ToS when it comes to narration. I'm not s content creator, but been a general YT subscriber since 2018 and have seen how these kind of channels are treated by YT.

Surely, Maigret does in fact have a sidekick - Inspector Janvier. Also, the author's name is "Simenon", not "Simeon".

I can't watch James Bond films anymore. When I was a teenager, a long time ago, I baby sat for a family with three boys, and they were lovely kids but they'd make me watch James Bond films the whole night. Every time I went. I watched enough JB for a lifetime!

I had read that Agatha Christie wrote a "final" story in advance for both Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple during WWII so that, in the event of her own unexpected demise, her audience would nonetheless be able to have some sense of closure for both of her characters.

You asked a question early on about where your listeners come from etc. I live in the States, specifically the New England region and I first heard of your podcast via a post in a FB writer's group called "Writer's Soapbox". Love the podcast as it gives a great behind the scenes look at a particular genre (mysteries) and the people who write them.

A little clarification on one point: Raymond Burr played a detective in a wheelchair in a show called "Ironsides", whereas Della Street was the secretary in "Perry Mason". "Ironside" he had three police associates with him, while "Perry Mason" had Della Street as his secretary and Paul Drake as his p.i.

I finally got myself up-to-date with the episodes and I'm loving all of them. I'm also loving the blog and despite never having written anything since leaving school many many years ago, I though I'd have a go at Mike's story prompts. I've posted my efforts for what they're worth on the blog and I'd be interested to see what you all think. Long may the podcast continue

I recently discovered a Sherlock related podcast which is an audio drama with Watson as a modern day true crime podcaster who records his adventures with Holmes and Mrs Hudson. It's called Sherlock & Co and I'd highly recommend it if you looking for anything sherlockian. I've been listening to it on Spotify but I'm sure it's available wherever you get your podcasts.

The show in question was "Happy Days" where one of the main characters, Arthur Fonzarelli took a dare and jumped a shark on water skis. The show pretty much went downhill from there and was cancelled a few years later.

Thanks everyone for another excellent podcast. I've always thought that I'd love to write a book but I lack the imagination and ideas to compete with the myriad of brilliant independent authors out there. Maybe you can do an episode on how to come up with ideas if you're a novice wannabe scribe
@michaeljackson230410 ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback Kevin. glad you are enjoying the podcast. We will certainly consider doing a show about coming up with ideas. Thanks for the suggestion.

In re word count: I find that my novel chapters come in at 14 pages +/- & 6k words +/- on a very consistent basis. I'm not quite sure what the word count for novellas would run for me, as I haven't written one in quite some time, but the last it finished around 42k.
@whiterhinobooks199911 ай бұрын
Liz here - I believe a novella becomes a novel at 40,000 words so you've just sneaked in there!

This was a very cool initial episode. Looking forward to the deeper dives on everyone's writing processes et al. I loved those little hint fiction stories. It definitely reminds me of the snarky stuff I used to write on my blog(s). Oh, I got here via the line from Writer's Soapbox.
