Speaking my introverted language. I'm a teacher, so basically I close the door at the end of every day. I love camping for this reason. Leaning towards trying train travel.

There is so much potential They need to bring back the flagship routes and upscale service. Amtrak is like a mass product being produced. A frist class coach, a nicely detailed lounge and sleeper would be superb to attract worldwide attention. Routes that you wouldn't mind a delay because the experience and time spent would be well worth the adventure.

Great to see the Penn Line will be using electric trains exclusively. Maybe they should invest in those trains Caltrain has.

Long distance rides on Amtrak scenic routes in a sleeper are amazing experiences! It's one of those things, you don't really "get it" until you have done it. Of course, if I wanted to go from here (Silicon Valley) to Seattle, for a weekend, and come back in time to go back to work monday morning, I would fly. But if I have the time and the inclination I definitely take the scenic route. I have ridden the whole thing, Los Angeles to Seattle, four times now, I think. :-)

@darthmaul2166 күн бұрын
No high speed rail line in the world does that
@andrewreynolds49496 күн бұрын
@ The NEC will likely never exceed the FRA Class 8 track speed limit of 160 mph. Greater than that (Class 9) requires far more expensive and strict standards. Additionally, the FRA's classification of High Speed Rail is speeds of above 125 mph, so the NEC already meets the 'High Speed Rail' standards

Did the train-bike trip in the opposite direction -- Providence to DC last summer. The biggest problem I had was getting off at Union Station. The conductors refused to open the doors closest to the bike rack and then told everybody who was staying on the train that they had to move to the next car, which meant I had to fight against the flow of those passengers the length of the car with my bike to get off. And it wasn't a level platform. DC was awesome to bike around, tho, both in the city and down to Mt. Vernon.

Why do generations of political leaders not invest in maintenance? By not funding the maintenance over time, we’re left with a balloon payment when the infrastructure is failing. Same situation here in NYC are with rail and subways - years of disinvestment come due and the result is huge costs. of Why is the sound of the vices in the interviews all over the place? Post processing gone wrong.
@andrewreynolds494915 күн бұрын
You can only maintain something for so long. The old tunnel has a sharp bend in it too, making a speed and capacity bottleneck.
